They played against their eternal rivals The St. Thomas Eagles (7-2). I had to go watch these two heated rivals duke it out especially after watching St. Pius X practice on Wednesday. When I when to St. Pius X the week we were going to play St. Thomas we called it “Thomas Week.” It was a very big deal for our school and I was excited to experience that feeling again. Although, both teams were slightly even in the beginning The St. Thomas Eagles started gaining some momentum and won the game with a score of 37-14. The St. Thomas Eagles have a lot of talented and standout players.
#12 Samuel Mahlberg WR Sr
Samuel Mahlberg is a reliable wide receiver. Samuel didn’t get a lot of passes but, when he did catch the ball he made a difference. Samuel knew how to get open for passes nearly all his catches he was wide open and got downfield. Samuel ended the night with four receptions, 51 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
#7 Shaffer Henderson WR Jr
Shaffer Henderson is a very consistent wide receiver. Shaffer didn’t do anything outstanding to stand out, but he never had any unnecessary movement, he got where he needed to be and ran the play. Being consistent and dependable is a great trait for a wide receiver. Shaffer was always able to get a 1st down and he put his team in a great position to score. Shaffer ended the night with five receptions and 62 receiving yards.
#23 Johann Cardenas Johann Cardenas 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB St. Thomas Catholic | 2024 State TX RB So 6’0 205 lbs
Johann Cardenas Johann Cardenas 6'0" | 205 lbs | RB St. Thomas Catholic | 2024 State TX is a strong and fast running back. Whenever, The St. Thomas Eagles were in a pinch they handed the ball off to Johann. Johann has the speed and power to break through tackles and advance down the field. The St. Thomas Eagles were in their own end zone they handed the ball off to Johann needing a 1st down. Not only did Johann get the 1st down he was able to run the ball for 72 yards. Johann being a sophomore and he’s already at the level he is will definitely become a top prospect by his senior year. Johann ended the night with 16 carries, with 145 rushing yards and one touchdown.
#3 Cameron Price WR Sr 5’11 175 lbs
Another standout wide receiver is Cameron Price. Cameron is fast and one of the key factors from him that stood to me was the way he ran his routes. Cameron had quickness, speed and finesse when running his routes. When running routes being unpredictable and confusing your defender on where your going is the best way to get open. This is what Cameron did and he was big asset to The St. Thomas winning the game. Cameron ended the night with ten receptions, 150 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
