While attending games we can be overwhelmed by athletic plays from skill positions, but what about the beast on the frontline? Every game linemen are battling in the trenches, exerting a lot of energy, and displaying an immense amount of abilities we sometimes overlook. Lets preview a few linemen I think everyone in the state of Texas should get to know.
Kristian Whitfield – (2022) – Duncanville- DT – 6’1″ 255lbs
Game: Duncanville vs. Cedar Hill 10/22 at 7:30pm
Whitfield is a powerful defensive tackle who is an absolute wall to get pass. He has quick hands and feet enabling him to get of his block. Once he gets off the block he immediately redirects his position to pursue the ball. Several times versus Midway offensive linemen would attempt to double or chop block him, but Whitfield’s alertness allowed him to evade them and make a play. When he tackles a runner he lays all 255lbs on them to ensure they don’t slip away. He has a few offers but look for more schools to offer this post season.
Zachary Session– (2023) – Morton Ranch – OL – 6’3″ 290lbs
Game: Morton Ranch vs Mayde Creek 10/21 at 6pm
Zachary is a dynamic and big offensive linemen who is gaining interest from Power 5 schools but hasn’t received any offers. Why? I don’t know, but when you watch this kid he is an a linemen to be reckoned with. Zachary is a great pass blocker, possess the speed and agility to pull, and lay defenders down allowing his running backs to get loose. His dominance in the trenches allowed Junior running back Santana Scott to have 472 all purpose yards against Lake Creek. With all the interest Zachary is gaining, I’m sure a school is going to pull the trigger and give him a scholarship offer soon.
Trevor Goosby – (2023) – Melissa High – OL – 6’6″ 245lbs
Game: Melissa vs Ranchview 10/22 at 7:30pm
Goosby fits the description of an ideal collegiate offensive tackle. He is all about “The Battle In The Trenches”. Goosby has quick feet, a wide base, and long arms. He is dominate at one-on-ones and has the athletic ability to go forward and block at the second level. He has the ability to pancake defenders due to his explosiveness. You can tell Goosby loves the game and embraces his position. He recently received an offer from University of Texas at San Antonio and has several schools interested in him. Look for Goosby to gain more notoriety during the off season.
Connor Stroh – (2023) – Wakeland – OL – 6’7″ 365lbs
Game: Wakeland vs. Reedy 10/22 at 7pm
Stroh is the biggest linemen in my preview today and colleges have already noticed him. He is a wide linemen who utilizes his powerlifting back ground and strength to completely break the will of his opponent. Stroh plays with an edge you can’t teach. He is relentless when blocking and completely understands his responsibilities. He is a versatile offensive linemen who plays both guard and primarily tackle. He is definitely a rising star that rival universities Oklahoma and Texas are showing interest in. Keep up with his recruiting journey should be interesting.
Demarcus Becks – (2022) – Waxahachie – DT – 6’1″ 285lbs
Game: Waxahachie vs. Mansfield 10/22 at 7:30pm
Demarcus is an underrated defensive tackle who plugs holes. He is great at maintaining gap control, shedding blocks, and attacking the ball. He comes off the ball with pure power. Demarcus uses his power and leverage to lock his hands on the inside and drive the blocker into the backfield. He also uses different defensive hand techniques with fluid hip movement to shed blocks while pursing the ball carrier. Look for him to receive late offers towards the end of the season.
