Today were going to shed some light on emerging 2023 talent you need to check out in week 8. Read and watch highlights below for some of the talent who are currently going under the radar.
David Spruiells – (2023) – South Oak Cliff – DB – 5’9″ 170lbs/ Texas Flex 7v7
Game: South Oak Cliff vs Seagoville 10/14 at 7pm
Spruiells is a dynamic athlete who can play any defensive back position! He is quick, tough, and has a nose for the ball. He currently has 22 total tackles, 2 interceptions, and a handful of pass breakups. He reminds me of Tyrann Mathieu because of his field vision, ability to cover wide receivers, attacks the ball carrier, and can play the nickelback position to apply pressure on quarterbacks. Keep an eye out for this kid because the future is bright for him.
Adrian Wilson -(2023) – Grand Prairie – ATH – 6’2″ 180lbs/ TDG Elite 7v7
Game: Grand Prairie vs. Lamar 10/15 at 7pm
I came across Wilson while scrolling through Twitter and decided to take a look at his Hudl highlight, and I’m glad I did. He is a dual threat quarterback who has the ability to lay out his opponents at free safety. I couldn’t make this up if I wanted to, but Wilson highlight film displays an array of abilities on the football field. Wilson has scored three different ways on offense from throwing, running, and receiving. At quarterback he can extend the play with his feet, keep his eyes down field, and complete the pass. While on defense Wilson can read and react to a play quickly, he attacks his opponents, and creates turnovers. I foresee him playing defense at the collegiate level, but only time will tell.
Tre Guerra – (2023) – Keller – QB – 6’2″ 170lbs
Game: Keller vs. Timber View 10/15 at 7pm
Guerra is a dual threat quarterback with a powerful arm. He sits in the pocket poised while reading the field and throwing dots to his receivers. In seven games Guerra has thrown for 1320 yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and 2 rushing touchdowns. He is currently leading Keller to one of their best starts at 5-2 since 1967. His arm strength is amongst the elite in the country and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him invited to the Elite 11 Regionals. With several notable class of 2022 quarterbacks graduating this year, look for Guerra’s stocks to rise as a premiere talent in Texas.
Will Marshall – (2023) – Flower Mound – DT – 6’5″ 260lbs
Game: Flower Mound vs. Plano West 10/15 at 7pm
We all love the big offensive plays but the boys in the trenches doing the dirty work enables those plays to happen! Marshall is a dominate blind side tackle who has a bright future ahead of him. He has a wide base, strong hands, quick feet, and extremely powerful. Despite his size Marshall can get upfield and block at the next level. He will pancake his opponent in a blink of an eye. Once Marshall locks his hands on the inside of his opponent, good luck kid your done! I was able to speak with him briefly and he stated he hasn’t heard from any colleges, but that will change as the season goes on.
Brian Hollins – (2023) – Mansfield – DB – 5’11” 175lbs
Game: Mansfield vs. Lake Ridge 10/12 at 7pm
Mansfield definitely has a baller in defensive back Hollins. He understands the game, has confidence, and can lock down his opponent. Hollins best game this season was against high powered offense Desoto, which he had 6 tackles and 2 critical pass deflections. The attributes I enjoy the most is his ability to hustle and get of the block. He attack’s the ball and delivers clean hits on the ball carrier. He is already becoming a known athlete defensive coordinators plan against resulting in him receiving three college offers.
Deago Benson – (2023) – Midlothian – RB – 6’0″ 190lbs
Game: Midlothian vs. Red Oak 10/15 at 7pm
Benson is a four down running back who doesn’t run from contact. He is big back who has great agility, vision, and can block. Benson has 525 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns. His most notable game was last week against Centennial where he rushed for 160 yards and 1 touchdown. He currently holds one Division I offer and has several schools interested in him. Look for him to have a field day versus a struggling Red Oak defense.
Jermod McCoy – Whitehouse – ATH – 6’1″ 170lbs
Game: Whitehouse vs. Marshall 10/15 7:30pm
One of the most notable players to come out of Whitehouse, TX is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes who also played baseball. McCoy has the potential to be the next elite star to come from Whitehouse. Like Mahomes, McCoy plays football and baseball. He is a phenomenal athlete with great hands and top end speed. McCoy had 133 yards receiving and 1 touchdown versus Corsicana. He has sharp route running skills, ability to adjust to the ball, and catch it at the highest point. He is quietly making a name for himself, but I believe in due time he will be on college coaches radar.
