[player_tooltip player_id="148360" first="Mason" last="Morrow"], QB, Valley, Twitter
Morrow, with ice in his veins, threw darts on Friday night under heavy pressure in a win over Ankeny. He went 15/28 for 247 yards and 4 touchdowns; the poise and awareness used to post those numbers was incredible. He sidestepped, spun out of, and stepped into pressure to deliver perfectly placed passes. On one score he shed a sack, escaped, and found a target downfield in scramble drill. Equally impressive was how he nailed an RPO for another score.
[player_tooltip player_id="152538" first="Landon" last="Hochstein"], QB, Norwalk, Twitter
Hochstein was on fire in a week 6 victory over Indianola; his 26/33 for 297 yards, 88 rushing yards, and 6 total touchdown performance was exemplary. There wasn’t much he didn’t put on display as he led the Warriors to a signature win. One of his three touchdown passes came from 24 yards out when he placed a perfect ball to his number three receiver in trips on a post pattern over the top of a Linebacker and inside a Safety to beat single-high coverage.
[player_tooltip player_id="148786" first="Mason" last="Applegate"], RB, Iowa City West, Twitter
Applegate went crazy with a perofrmance of the season candidate in week 6. The two-way standout ran for 381 yards and 4 touchdowns on just 16 carries and added 6 tackles, a sack, and 3.5 TFL. All Applegate needed was a crease and he did the rest by breaking tackles with exceptional power and balance. One of his touchdowns came from 93 yards; he eluded two tacklers in the backfield and then broke through a three defender gang tackle to get to daylight.
John Argo, RB, Assumption, Twitter
Argo was running hard and angry and contributing everywhere in Assumption’s week 6 win over Mount Vernon. He carried 24 times for 241 yards and a touchdown, caught 3 passes for 50 yards, collected 4 tackles, and even threw a 38 yard pass. Argo had two carries that went for more than 80 yards to the house. On one he lined up as the Y and came across the formation at the snap on a double handoff counter. Argo cut it up, broke two tackles, and was gone.
[player_tooltip player_id="104721" first="Walker" last="Tart"], WR, Dubuque Senior, Twitter
Tart shredded the Davenport West secondary on Friday night for 7 receptions, 158 yards, and 3 touchdowns; he also blocked like an animal on the outside to pitch in on the ground. One of his three scores came from 24 yards out on a contested corner route that required perfect focus to haul in. His other scores came on a deep out and a back shoulder fade; his route running is versatile. Equally impressive was how Tart broke off or adjusted routes to help his Quarterback.
[player_tooltip player_id="148739" first="Carson" last="Brown"], WR, Dowling Catholic, Twitter
Dowling earned a big week 6 win to get back to .500 and Brown’s efforts in the red zone were a big part of that. His 6 receptions went for just 56 yards, but he scored on 3 of them. The Maroons have struggled to find consistent productivity since losing their starting Quarterback in week 1, but Brown has been a bright spot accounting for over 50% of their receiving production. His outstanding route running and hands have forced opponents to still respect the pass.
[player_tooltip player_id="24018" first="Ben" last="Kuehnast"], OL, Humboldt, Twitter
Kuehnast anchors one of the most explosive offenses in Iowa. That was no different in week 6 as the Wildcats put up 52 points and over 500 yards of total offense to remain unbeaten. The 6’7 Left Tackle is mobile in zone protection and a steel wall when big on big. He finds work and finishes plays. His base blocking was especially impressive on Friday night; he bulldozed a Tackle, taking out a Linebacker in the process, to clear running room on a goal line touchdown.
[player_tooltip player_id="152884" first="Ben" last="Kueter"], LB, Iowa City High, Twitter
Kueter was at it again in week 6 against Davenport North. His 10.5 Tackle, 4 TFL, 2.5 Sack performance was undeniably great. Kueter crept up from depth on one of his sacks and saddled the Defensive Tackle in front of him who slanted across the Center’s face at the snap. Kueter demolished the Center with a violent strike, flew into the backfield, got his arms up to force the Quarterback to pull the ball down, and threw him to the ground. He can’t be stopped.
Chase Lamb, LB, Waukee Northwest, Twitter
Lamb, a filled out 6’3 2024, was all over the field on Friday night in the Wolves’ win over Sioux City East. He posted 13 Tackles, a TFL, and a Sack. He’s had steady performances through five, but really burst onto the scene in week 6. Lamb plays with incredible instincts and a nose for the ball. For a young player to scrape, flow, fill, blitz, and cover the way he did on Friday night is impressive. From violent collisions to snuffing out screens, Lamb was dominant.
Drew Peterson, DB, Ames, Twitter
Peterson came up big with an interception and some game changing, momentum seizing hits in Friday’s win. The pick came when he crept down from coverage when the Quarterback was scrambling on roll out; the ball was thrown and Peterson lept to snatch it out of the air and, in athletic fashion, come down with his feet in bounds. One of his big hits came against bubble. Peterson beat the block and wrecked the receiver as the ball arrived. He also added 5 tackles.
[player_tooltip player_id="100842" first="Nick" last="Miller"], DE, Lewis Central, Twitter
Miller, one of Iowa’s most elite and feared pass rushers, had himself a ballgame in week 6. He was a terror on the edge as he collected 4 TFL, 3 Sacks and recovered a fumble. The best edge rushers know how valuable pressure is. Miller personified that with his play. On one of his impact plays he hit a nice inside move when his Tackle overset and laid the Quarterback out as he released the ball; this forced a bad pass that led to an interception deep in opponent territory.
