Week eight of the high school football season is in the books in the state of Arkansas. Like always we witnessed solid play from teams as well as players and learned a few things along the way. Plenty of teams and players to a look at and reflect upon what we learned from week eight. The playoff race is heating up and positioning is on the line.
The first team we are going to take a look at tonight is the Curley Wolves of Prescott. Coach Brian Glass has the Curley Wolves focused on a state championship run. Prescott has the weapons to accomplish that goal this season. Prescott is 7-0 and playing football at an extremely high level to close out the regular season. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75135" first="Carston" last="Poole"] and running back [player_tooltip player_id="92740" first="Jaylen" last="Hopson"] help give opposing defensive coordinators plenty of nightmares. My advice is keep an on this team they are built for a deep playoff run.
Meanwhile, up in the northwest corner of the state the Bentonville West Wolverines have a talented young nucleus that is being built for the future on the offensive side of the ball. Sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="149592" first="Jake" last="Casey"] grows more comfortable as the signal caller every week and his play continues to become more impressive as well. Two weeks ago, Casey threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns and last weekend he helped lead a comeback victory over Springdale Har-Ber. Clearly, the best is yet to come for the Wolverines’ signal caller, this is going to be a fun group to watch over the next two seasons.
The Benton Panthers in the central part of the state have played one of the most difficult schedules in the state this season. Benton defeated Greenwood in a classic last Friday and are looking to keep the momentum going against Lake Hamilton. Running back Casey Johnson has been on a roll for the Panthers this season and he will look to continue his successful season against the Wolves this week. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="106935" first="Stran" last="Smith"] has a knack for knowing when to make the big play and plenty will be on the line this Friday night against Lake Hamilton. This game has the potential to be a great one this week.
When the schedule was set everyone circled the game between Paris and Booneville this weekend. The conference championship is on the line this Friday in Booneville and both teams are looking to lay claim to it. The Booneville rushing attack with [player_tooltip player_id="92902" first="Randon" last="Ray"], [player_tooltip player_id="149579" first="Dax" last="Goff"], and [player_tooltip player_id="172372" first="Rylan" last="Ray"] will look to chew up the yardage on the ground this Friday. Paris quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="152798" first="Chase" last="Watts"] will look to get the Eagles passing game and force Booneville to play from behind. Both teams are playoff bound, however this matchup is all about setting up playoff positioning.
Playoff spots are on this line this Friday night and the intensity level will be taken up about five notches. Playoff positioning will also be determined this week. The weather is cool, and it is time to get out and enjoy some football. Football season is my favorite time of year, but the season never ends at Prep RedZone Arkansas, we will have all-state teams coming out after the playoffs as well as new rankings to introduces so check back here often! This week we will preview some great matchups taking place around the state, just like always!
