Westfield had a couple of stud offensive players, and it was evident by the by the score board, beating the Spring Lions 31-21. Westfield combined for 535 yards! Here are the Offensive Stand Outs of the Game.
Cardell Williams Cardell Williams 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Westfield | 2022 State TX (2022) I 6’3″ I #2 I QB
I can’t start this offensive focused article without talking about the quarterback in charge of it. Williams was a leader out there, lining his team up, paying attention to the down and distance, watching the clock, not forcing anything. This kid throws the prettiest football I have seen so far this football season! On each of his touchdown passes (all to one receiver which will also be in this article) the receiver did not have to much work once the ball was in the air. Williams put the ball in the bucket each time! His touch on the football was very impressive. When he can set his feet, this guy can sling it at every level of the field, with his longest pass of the night being a 44 yard bomb. The only true knock on him was his ability to run. I don’t mean scramble to keep a play alive, because he was pretty efficient at that. I’m referring to either designed runs or passing the line of scrimmage. He did not make many people miss. Speed was not the problem, but his open field cuts did not look crisp. Williams finished the game going 13/25 for 218 yards, 3 TDs and 0 interceptions.
DaJohn Palomo (2023) I 5’10″ I #4 I WR
I mentioned above that all three of Williams touchdowns were thrown to one guy…..well Palomo was that guy. As a matter of fact, Palomo is that guy, if you know what I mean. He can flat out run. Once he got on top of the defensive back, it was over! The junior’s route running ability was very effective and I don’t think this kid is capable of dropping a pass. He was quick off the line and got into the DB’s space fairly quick, forcing the DB to turn and run sooner than he was comfortable with. On only 5 receptions, Palomo found the end zone on with 3 of them, with the longest touchdown coming on a 44 yard catch. The junior averaged 30.6 yards per reception, going for 153 yards. There’s a lot more football left to be played, and I fully expect Palomo to be star in preparation for his senior year of high school!
Dahmeir Scott (2023) I 5’10″, 200 lbs I #1 I RB
Scott must be allergic to turf or something, because he tried his absolute hardest not to hit the ground! He is a load and is hard to take down. I don’t have any statistics to back up this thought, but it seemed like Scott gained about 3-5 yards after making contact with a defender. His vision was good, hitting the holes and finding the open spaces. I was not a fan of his speed though. I believe Scott could have gained even more yards if his open field acceleration was better. He probably could have scored! Fortunately for him and Westfield, he is only a junior! I think if he can get faster overall, that can take his game from good to great! I like Scott’s running style as a whole. He ended the night with 19 carries and 104 yards, averaging 5.5 yards a carry. His longest run went for 21 yards.
Rechuuk Hines (2023) I 6’3″ I #6 I WR
Hines is a big body receiver with some speed! I would not go as far as to say he has blazing speed, but he can definitely run past you. The only other receiver to catch more than one pass on the night, Hines used his size to his advantage. Being a bigger receiver, Hines suffered from being a little stiff in and out of breaks, but that is normal for a player his size. He was a willing and able blocker as well. With room to grow, Hines was a solid player and is capable of making even more plays! When the game was finished, Hines caught 3 passes for 45 yards, with his longest reception being 23 yards.
Westfield had a couple of ballers on the field Friday night. Each player caught my eye consistently and really contributed to a win, willing their team to a still undefeated record.
