Montgomery County Week 9 Preview

We have now reached the last week of the regular season. This is the most important week of the season and this is the last chance to improve seeding for the playoffs. Expect teams to treat this week as the playoffs and don't be surprised if you see some big performances from some key guys. <strong>Damascus vs Seneca Valley </strong> This is the game of the week. Both of these teams have winning records but a win here would greatly improve their seed. This is as close to a must-win game as you'll get. The best part is this is a big rivalry game that will be filled with emotion. Expect a really good game. Damascus player to watch: Justin Velez - Velez is a 3-way player for Damascus. He is a running back that runs hard and with power. On defense he plays linebacker, he is a good run-stuffing backer. He has the ability to stuff inside runs, but he also has enough speed to make plays on outside runs. On kickoff, he shows off that speed and tackling ability as he is always making plays on the kickoff team. Seneca Valley player to watch: Tylek Bright - Bright is Seneca's best player. He will need to have a big game on the ground if they want to move the ball on Damascus' defense. He also will be a key guy to stopping Damascus' run game. Bright has speed, power, and agility on both offense and defense. It will be interesting to see how he matches up with Dunathan and Velez. <strong>Blair vs BCC </strong> This is a game between two 6-2 teams. Both of these teams have proven to be threats and will look to make a playoff run. A win for both teams would be a big start for a potential deep run. Blair player to watch: Ricardo Villars - Villars is another dangerous weapon for this dynamic Blair passing attack. He is a good deep-threat receiver that has big playability. He is also a ball hawk on the defensive end. He is a big-time player that makes big plays. Expect Blair to get Villars involved on Friday. BCC player to watch: Shane Schwartz - Schwartz is a physical player. He plays with violence. He is a great tackler and makes plays at the line of scrimmage. He is also a great blitzer. BCC blitzes him a lot because of the havoc he creates. He also does a good job of reading pass plays and getting into his pass drops. Schwartz will need to have a big game to contain Blair's offense. <strong>Rockville vs Richard Montgomery </strong> Richard Montgomery has had a very difficult schedule and is much better than their record shows. Rockville has been a surprise this season with a good record. Rockville needs a win here for playoff seeding, and Richard Montgomery needs a win to get on the right track before the playoff starts. Rockville player to watch: Okeyo Ayungo - Ayungo is Rockville's best athlete. He is their best receiver as well as their best defensive back. He is explosive with the ball in his hands. He also has the ability to go up and grab contested balls. On defense, he is a ball hawk and does a great job of breaking on the ball. Ayungo and Pedone will be an interesting matchup. Richard Montgomery player to watch: Ashad Brooks - Brooks has been Richard Montgomery's lead back. He has had a strong year as he runs hard and with good speed. He has had a solid year. He is a back that coaches love because he gets downfield and runs hard. He also has good vision and is able to find open holes. Rockville has a tough front so this will be a big test for Brooks. <strong>Wheaton vs Kennedy </strong> This is a game of two programs that are struggling at the moment. This game is an opportunity for both teams to get a win. This should be a competitive game. Wheaton player to watch: Miguel Diaz - Diaz is an athlete. He is a good receiver and a willing blocker. He will be one of the best athletes on the field and will have to put together a big game. Kennedy player to watch: Brian Eiskant - Eiskant like Diaz is another good athlete. He is a good receiver. Eiskant and Diaz will be an interesting matchup.
