Montgomery County Week 7 Preview

There are only a few games left for teams to get wins and improve their seeding for the playoffs. This means that some players will need to step up. There are some big games this week and there are also some players poised to step up. <strong>Sherwood vs Blair</strong> This is the game of the week. Both of these teams are 5-1 and have proven to be contenders to make a deep playoff run. A win here for either team could solidify them a top seed and set them up well for a deep playoff run. Sherwood player to watch: Liam Haley - Haley is coming off a monster game against Northwest. Sherwood will need a repeat performance if they’re going to stop Kendall Anderson and this dynamic Blair offense. Haley will need to be stout in coverage, and also apply pressure on Anderson when he is used as a rusher. Blair player to watch: Mikhail Seiken - Seiken is a 3-way star for Blair. On the offensive side of the ball, he is a receiver that has great speed and runs good routes. On defense, he is a defensive back that has the ability to cover and come downfield and make plays in the run game. On special teams, he is a dangerous return man that is a threat to take any kick or punt back. <strong>Damascus vs Rockville</strong> Damascus can jump Rockville in the standings with a win here. For Rockville, a win here would prove that they are a legitimate threat to make some noise come playoff time. This is a big game for both teams. Damascus player to watch: [player_tooltip player_id="209043" first="Dillon" last="Dunathan"] - Dunathan has felt like a one-man army at times this season. He is Damascus’ biggest threat on the ground and he is their best player on defense. Dunathan will need to continue to carry this team if they want to get back into the conversation amongst the elite teams in the county. Rockville player to watch: Jonathan Cubias - Cubias may be undersized but he is the best player on the Rockville defensive front. He is constantly living in the backfield and makes a ton of plays behind the line of scrimmage. This will be a big test for Cubias to see if he can continue his production against a strong Damascus offensive line. <strong>Walter Johnson vs Richard Montgomery </strong> Both of these teams have shown flashes of excellence and both of these teams have really struggled at times. This should be an even game and the winner can start to build momentum before the playoffs. Walter Johnson player to watch: Lucas Boiteux - Boiteux has been a big playmaker for Walter Johnson. He is a deep-threat receiver that can take the top off the defense. He also has good speed to finish the play after the catch. He is having a great season and will continue to put up big numbers. Richard Montgomery player to watch: Andrew Brown - Brown is a big run-stuffing defensive tackle. He is big and uses his size to plug the gaps. He also has great hands not only when fitting off blocks but ripping the ball from the ball carrier. Brown is a great piece to have on any defense. <strong>Clarksburg vs BCC</strong> This is an interesting matchup as both teams will want wins to help their seeding. Both of these teams are looking to avoid having to play the top teams in their region so this is a must-win for both of them. Clarksburg player to watch - Vance is a two-way starter for Clarksburg. He is very tall standing at 6’4 which makes him a contested ball threat. He uses his height to come down with contested balls. He is a real red-zone threat. On defense, he can line up at edge or at off-ball backer. He does a great job of playing any outside runs and is a great tackler. if Vance can continue his play Clarksburg has a chance to pull off some upsets. BCC player to watch - Spencer Upston - Upston is a special athlete. He is an offensive lineman turned quarterback. In BCC’s Wing-T system he is mostly used as a running quarterback. He uses his size and power to his advantage as he breaks tackles and shrugs defenders off of him. Not only that but he is also a defensive lineman. On defense, he is quick and has great hands. Upston is a rare do it all athlete and an exciting player to watch. &nbsp;
