In a matchup of rival schools, Glenbard South came away with an impressive 40-20 victory against host Glenbard East. There were players on both sides that stood out over the course of the game and here are the standouts from the host team, the GBE Rams.

2022 Wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="140848" first="Tyrese" last="Buffkin"] (6’4” and 183lbs) @TyreseBuffkin
During warmups Buffkin stood out with his long frame and large catch radius. He carried over those skills to the game and was the best pass catching option for the Rams. Buffkin has a good frame and is lean right now, so he should be able to add on good weight as he continues to get older.

He ran solid routes and has some electricity after he catches the ball. The touchdown pass he caught was a thing of beauty, high pointing the ball over the defender and using his strong hands to retain the catch. Buffkin is getting some D1 interest but he’s got so much potential and could be a very nice sleeper prospect.

2023 Defensive end Troy Cooper (6’4” and 205lbs) @TroyCooper123
After finding out that Cooper is just in his second year of playing football, it makes the potential of his so much more intriguing. He’s long and athletic and if he’s just now working on the nuisances of learning the game, the ceiling is very high for this young man. He was the focus of the offensive line, often getting double teamed, but Cooper still managed to make impact plays.

It’s clear that he needs to get more training at the position, but if this is what he is right now, watch out for next year. Cooper has the talent to explode on the scene with some offseason work and it wouldn’t surprise me at all for him to start getting a lot of looks from many schools.

2022 Cornerback Alonso Perkins (6’2” and 170lbs) @APerkinsp24
The length is obvious for Perkins, who pretty much shadowed D1 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="158489" first="Cam" last="Williams"] all evening. He did a great job of limiting his opponent, his long arms and good change of direction made it hard for anyone he was covering to get open.

Perkins showed a good back pedal and speed, his track background really showed when running with the GBS receivers. There’s room for Perkins to grow as well, his a bit skinny but at this moment, it’s not an issue. I didn’t get a chance to speak with him about how his recruitment is going, but there’s a lot to like about Perkins going forward.

2022 Linebacker Matthew Schager (6’1” and 200lbs) @MatthewSchager
Definitely passes the look test for a linebacker and Schager was flying all around the field for the majority of the night. He’s got great instincts, filling the hole multiple times while making impact tackles as well. He constantly was getting pressure on the quarterback, making his scramble out of the pocket earlier than he would have liked. In pass coverage, Schager dropped back well and had the awareness to get his hands on the ball get tip away a pass.

I really liked what I saw out of the linebacker and he’s another that I feel is being under-recruited. Offers from Olivet Nazarene and St. Francis are of few that Schager currently has, but that list should grow as other teams see his senior film.
2023 Quarterback Dillon Williams (5’9” and 165lbs) @repdat_2
Not the starter but playing the majority of the game, Williams showed that at this point in his development, he’s more of a runner than a thrower. He did make a few solid throws, including the TD pass to Buffkin, but Williams was at his best when running the ball.
https://twitter.com/mikefchen/status/1449204635395366912?s=21
He’s got some solid speed and cutting ability, which leads me to this his future won’t be as a quarterback. I’d like to see him take reps as a running back or even the slot. Williams has that wiggle that would work at either one of those positions.
2023 Linebacker Delmario Taylor (6’3” and 215lbs) @Delmario_Taylor
Even though Taylor played a good amount of his snaps at defensive end, his future is most likely as a linebacker. He’s got great size and moves very well, just needs to refine the skill set a bit. If he does stay at end, Taylor would have to continue to add on weight. The raw rushing ability is certainly there, he still got pressure multiple times forcing some ill advised throws. Taylor has a lot to work with and should be someone to watch over the offseason as he heads into his senior campaign.
