Understandably, the Indians ran into some complications when facing one of the best team’s in the state, Collins Hill, during week 6. This resulted in a 34-0 loss, and then entering into the following week, they found themselves with their 2nd loss in a row to Pebblebrook High School, who defeated them, 38-21. This loss to Pebblebrook also caused them to fall 0-1 in the region, but the road is far from over for them, as they will be facing Campbell, McEachern, and Newnan in the coming weeks, with opportunities in each game to redeem their season, and get a shot at the playoffs.
Perhaps the first reason in which we believe that the Indians have a bright future as the season progresses is due to the fact that their offense regularly puts up more than 24 points a game. In fact, in total, they have managed to score 206 points this year, while their defense has also performed at an incredible level. Offensively, a big reason for their success is due to QB, Daniel Shoch Daniel Shoch 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Selinsgrove | 2022 GA , who has seemingly helped to change life for the Indians since he transferred there last season. So far, through 7 games, he has already passed for over 1,000 yards, and he averages around 146 yards a game. In addition to this, he has also thrown for 8 TDs, to 5 interceptions. While the interception number can certainly be improved, we also feel that his overall command of the offense has been awesome, and when paired with the great receivers in which the Indians have, they are only getting better. This has included the likes of players such as Ameriyon Moss, Zander Simmons, Brady Tillman, and Colt Cortez. While there have been other contributors in the passing game, these are some of the best in contribution. With this, the running game has also been impressive, as the team has rushed for almost 800 yards, with the bulk of the carries going to Trey Bowles, DJ Reid, and Shoch. This 3 headed monster has caused defenses to be on their toes, as they have to account for more, and play with the intent to be honest against the run.
One of the biggest reasons we believe that the Indians have a bright future this season is due to the fact that their defense has been playing out of their minds. So far, their defense has helped to pitch 3 shutouts, with one of them being against their cross-town rival, Northgate High School. The other schools include that of Norcross High School, and New Manchester High, making their feats even more impressive. As a defense, the team has totaled more than 400 tackles, with more than 260 of them being solo tackles. Out of all of these tackles, 33 of them have been for a loss. If this production is not impressive enough, they have also totaled 13 sacks as a team, and have recorded around 9 interceptions. These interceptions come as no surprise, as most turnovers in the air are also influenced by a great pass rush. Recipients of these interceptions include that of Brandon Johnson, Crosby Ellis, Deliyon Freeman, and Kaleb Harris. Out of each of these players, Freeman, Harris, and Sullivan lead the pack. With this, when it comes to sacks, while multiple players have recorded a sack, players such as Keelan Kornegay, and Christian Richardson stand out among the rest, as they have totaled more than 7 sacks combined. Outside of the sacks, the DL has also created plenty of QB hurries, which has put a ton of pressure on the opposing team, and has helped the defense shine as a whole. Moving into the rest of the season, we have no doubt that this team has a shot at being great, especially if their defense plays to their standard, and brand of football.
