Antonio Dowell – Garfield Heights – WR – 5’8″ 165 lbs
Dowell was fantastic on Friday and made a huge impact every time he touched the ball. He changed the game on special teams early in the 1st QTR. He took a kickoff just over 97-yards for a TD. He weaved through the entire defense, bounced it to the outside, and then hit the jets. Once he hit the open field he was gone and everyone knew it. He had just under 100 receiving yards on the night as Garfield Heights fell short.
Brandyn Williams – Bedford – RB – 5’9″ 170 lbs
Bedford’s offense struggled early in the game and they relied on Williams to help jumpstart them and get things going and he delivered. He’s consistent and with his effort and gives it his all on every down. He’s not the most dynamic back but he’s very well-coached and has elite stamina. He rushed for over 100-yards and a TD on the night as Bedford squeaked out a hard-fought win.
Lamar Sperling – Hoban – RB – 5’9″ 178 lbs
Sperling is really fun to watch. He has tree trunks for legs and he keeps them churning which makes him incredibly hard to bring down. He broke a long TD run Friday where he went through the A-gap, looked like he was stopped, threw a defender off of him while stepping out of another tackle, and then raced down the field for a TD. Sperling put up over 150-yards and 2 TDs on the night.
Mo Morgan – North – RB – 5’11” 190 lbs
North did a really good job setting up Morgan to have a big night. They used a lot of motion and it kept the defense guessing and missing their gaps all night. When they actually handed the ball off on the motion nobody was on the backside to catch Morgan who was gone. Morgan easily scored a TD from over 60-yards out. Morgan put over 150 scrimmage yards and the TD on the night.
Duane Jackson – Benedictine – RB – 5’10” 190 lbs
Jackson was Benedictine’s workhorse on Friday and he delivered. He’s a powerful back and has the speed to bounce things to the outside. He also showed that he has incredibly soft hands and is good out of the backfield. He was able to find the endzone on a 9-yard run and it put Benedictine over the top. He rushed for over 100-yards and had his TD on the night.
