This not only hurts the staff and players involved in the programs, but it hurts high school recruits ability to put good play on film and grow their ability to be recruited. While we can hope for change in this area, the people in charge of high school football in Michigan should certainly investigate the matter and try to fix it at the league level.
While the forfeits have been a hiccup in an otherwise exciting 2021 season, it’s important to recognize the great players in the state that have been building some serious and well deserved hype due to their phenomenal play. It’s the time of the year where players start to separate themselves and it should be a lot of fun to see how these players play down the stretch in big games. Here’s a look at some of the talent in the class of 2022 that have been intriguing to watch on film this season. These players have a chance to elevate their recruiting even more so late in the process, while remaining uncommitted.

He has speed to beat defenders deep and could end up being a quarterbacks best friend at the next level. As a senior, Rapley has elevated his game even more compared to the tape from the summer circuits and his junior season. Seeing how he helps lead his team down the stretch will be something coaches will be observing and will find that Rapley has all of the talent and character to be a tremendous addition to any division one program.

Like Rapley, Lee remains uncommitted as one of the top players in the state of Michigan. With seven division one offers to his name, Lee has been expanding his tape and his recruiting has benefited greatly. He has made many big plays for Belleville so far this season and as a contender for a state title, Lee will be needed by his team to continue his vital play. The Belleville star has lots of quality traits athletically, being able to flip his hips in coverage and remain balanced on his feet. In an age of high powered offenses led by speedy wideouts, cornerbacks like Lee will be crucial to any division one teams recruiting plans if they want to contend.
Jordan Cannon Jordan Cannon 5'11" | 210 lbs | LB Orchard Lake St. Mary's | 2022 State MIBelleville opened the scoring tonight at Fordson with a 23 yard TD pass from freshman Bryce Underwood to the senior Deshaun Lee. Playing in the most physical conference in Michigan, it’s always impressive when a linebacker stands out in the Catholic League. It’s a dog fight for every inch in the CHSL, so seeing Cannon standout on tape is a great sign for the senior. While weighing seven offers off of the field including from schools like Michigan and Cincinnati, Cannon has been able to tone out the noise of his recruiting madness and continue to keep up his outstanding play. He’s going to be a fine addition for any team looking for a hard hitting linebacker who has prime instincts and vision. Shown in the clip, Cannon also has the athletic ability to play running back for Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.

Deone Walker Deone Walker 6'7" | 315 lbs | DL Cass Tech | 2022 State MIThere is not a team in Michigan that has been more hurt by forfeits than Cass Tech. They have been dealing with it in the worst way, and it’s hurting players ability to be recruited. Walker, the star defensive lineman for Cass Tech, has taken advantage of his time on the field and has been earning player of the year consideration as we near the end of the regular season. He is the top uncommitted player in Michigan out of all the classes combined, which makes him a must watch player as we near February’s signing day. Look for Walker to continue his stellar play as the Technicians look to make some noise in the playoffs and make it to Ford Field in November.
