I went all the way to Humble, Texas to watch these two highly ranked schools play an amazing game. The Atascocita Eagles (6-1) played against The Summer Creek Bulldogs (4-2) at Turner Stadium. Both teams were stacked very competitive and equal game. The game even went into overtime I never saw a high school football game go into overtime ever. The game ended with The Atascocita Eagles being victorious with a score of 30-24. The Atascocita Eagles which are ranked #12 in Texas and #54 in the entire nation had a phenomenal game. The Atascocita Eagles had a lot of defensive weapons which I’ll be discussing.
#99 Samu Taumanupepe DT, NG Jr 6’3 350 lbs
Wooooow! A defensive line is crucial for a great defensive formation games are won in the trenches. The defensive lineman that stood out from the jump was defensive tackle and nose guard #99 Samu Taumanupepe. Samu is gigantic, but that doesn’t slow him down he’s agile, quick and very athletic. Samu is obviously very strong bulldozing through the offensive line to get into the backfield. Samu size, strength, aggressive and agility make him standout one of the better defensive lineman I have seen in awhile. Samu has one offer from Texas State University, but by the end of his junior and senior year Samu will become a top college prospect.
#23 Jadon Ducos OLB Jr 5’10 195 lbs
A defensive linebacker needs to be able to pursue the ball and read the offense to determine where the ball is going. Middle linebacker Jadon Ducos had these traits and more. Jadon was always paying attention to Summer Creek’s offense able to observe and know where the ball was going. Jadon was always in the action making tackles and assisting whenever he could.
#9 Jonah Caseltine WR, TE, DE Sr 6’3 210 lbs
Another defensive lineman standout is defensive end Jonah Caseltine. Jonah was quick and fast off the ball. Jonah wasn’t as big and strong as Samu but he is definitely the speed type. Jonah would sometimes back off and play as a linebacker as well. Whether, Jonah was a linebacker or defensive end he was always quick, decisive and in the backfield. Jonah currently has a college offer from Louisiana College.
#27 Caleb Hudson DE, DT Sr 6’1 245 lbs
Caleb Hudson didn’t stand out to me to at 1st he made a couple good plays, but nothing that grab my attention. However, once overtime started I viewed Caleb as a completely different player. Caleb was ferocious and tenacious he knew that he couldn’t let up for a second. Summer Creek got the ball 1st for overtime so Caleb had to try the best he could to stop them from scoring. One play from Caleb that really stood out to me was during overtime on 3rd down Summer Creek was only a couple yards away from a 1st down. So Summer Creek did a handoff to the running back and as soon as he got the ball Caleb was right in his face and made the tackle. This forced Summer Creek to a kick a field goal that was later blocked. I love to see clutch plays during clutch time and Caleb is absolutely a clutch player.
