The Archbishop Carroll Lions defeated Bishop McNamara in a dominant shutout victory to snap McNamara’s unbeaten streak. Sophomore quarterback Kelvin Hewitt was absolutely sensational for Carroll, and his receivers proved their dominance as well. The Lions’ defense also deserves a ton of credit for stifling an incredibly good Bishop McNamara squad. The Lions move onto Bishop Ireton this Saturday, where they will look to extend their unbeaten streak to 7-0. First, let’s highlight a few more key playmakers for Carroll from last week’s game.
ARCHBISHOP CARROLL
Offense:
2024 6’0 175 QB – Kelvin Hewitt
The offensive player of the game for the Lions was most certainly Kelvin Hewitt. The Sophomore quarterback was slinging the ball all over the place with ease, and it was truly a next level performance for the future D1 QB. Hewitt is primarily a pocket passer with tremendous arm-strength, however, if he needs to scramble for a first down or use his legs in key situations to pick up yardage then he is more than capable of doing so. The young quarterback will look to continue his success against Bishop Ireton in the first WCAC conference game of the season for either squad.

2023 6’6 225 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="90682" first="Nyckoles" last="Harbor"]
[player_tooltip player_id="90682" first="Nyckoles" last="Harbor"] is almost impossible to guard in one on one matchups, and he proved why that is against Bishop McNamara. His touchdown opened up the scoring for the Lions, and from that point forward the Carroll pass catchers really asserted their dominance over the McNamara secondary. Even without time or space, Harbor time and time again finds a way to pick up big yards and get into the end zone. He’s an extreme mismatch for most high school defensive backs, and if Bishop Ireton does not double team him then the game will be over before it even starts. [player_tooltip player_id="90682" first="Nyckoles" last="Harbor"] should be a top 3 DMV area wide receiver on scouts’ rankings lists everywhere.

2023 5’10 160 WR – [player_tooltip player_id="90669" first="Jamarr" last="Ebron"]
The player whose performance really sealed the victory for the Lions was [player_tooltip player_id="90669" first="Jamarr" last="Ebron"]. The Carroll pass catcher had a stifling number of yards after contact in this contest, and he added a touchdown score as well. Not only does Ebron’s play light up the scoreboard, but he’s also the type of player with an infectiously positive attitude who gets his teammates involved and energized after every play. You could say [player_tooltip player_id="90669" first="Jamarr" last="Ebron"] is the spark for this Archbishop Carroll team, and any D1 program should ignore his size and focus in on the intangibles that he totally possesses. Ebron will look to deliver a similar performance this weekend against Ireton.
Defense:
2022 6’1 220 LB – Daniel Dennie
Daniel Dennie was certainly the defensive player of the game for Archbishop Carroll. His strong effort was crucial to maintaining the shutout for the Lions, and it all starts with Dennie’s ability to make the right decision in a split second. Dennie is one of the most intelligent linebackers in the area, and when you combine that with his tackling ability then it’s game over for his opponents. Whether it’s a run or a pass, Daniel Dennie always sniffs it out and makes a big play for the Lions on defense. The Bishop Ireton offensive line must be well prepared for Carroll because they’re going to bring a lot of pressure with Daniel Dennie leading the pride.
2022 6’0 215 LB – [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"]
[player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"] has proven yet again that he is, overall, the most consistent player on this Archbishop Carroll squad. Reid clogged the gaps and stopped the run better than anyone on the field against McNamara, and it will be very exciting to watch his performance against Bishop Ireton. [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"] is a top linebacker prospect, and he will certainly make a strong impact on any program at the next level. He has proven himself as an elite defensive player this year.
