Throughout the game, Providence Catholic had everything going in their favor as they were halting Marian Central Catholic’s offense and driving down the field adding to their lead on each drive. Suddenly, Marian Central Catholic got their passing game going with the Brendan Hernon Brendan Hernon 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Marian Central | 2022 State IL to Christian Bentancur connection. Momentum suddenly shifted in Marian Central Catholic’s favor as they were making a late-game comeback. So much so that during their last drive of the game they just got the play off with 0.2 seconds remaining in the 4th Quarter which resulted in Brendan Hernon Brendan Hernon 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Marian Central | 2022 State IL QB sneak for a TD. The score at this time was 35 – 33, Marian Central Catholic had to go for 2. Brendan Hernon Brendan Hernon 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Marian Central | 2022 State IL hikes the ball, the defense brings pressure forcing Mr. Hernon to release the ball quickly targeting his big wideout Christian Bentancur. The ball is up in the air aimed for the back corner of the pylon, Mr. Bentancur goes up for the ball but it’s too high resulting in an incomplete pass. Providence Catholic comes away with the win against Marian Central Catholic in one heck of a game.

#61 Luke Dalton Luke Dalton 6'5" | 300 lbs | OL Marian Central Catholic | 2022 State IL 6’5 300 22′ OL Twitter
Mr. Dalton washes the defensive lineman down by getting hands-on and keeping his feet driving. This young man works up to the 2nd level blocks, as he does so he does a good job of locating the defender to block in open space. During pass protection, he can hold his own one-on-one where he forces the outside rush. He does so by staying square and “pumping” the hands (paired with shuffling his feet) once the ball is snapped in his kick step. This young man plays through the whistle getting after it in the trenches, there’s no wonder why he’s committed to The University of Cincinnati.
#88 Christian Bentancur 6’4 205 24′ WR Twitter
Mr. Bentancur is a new name to me this season and man he’s going to be something special. He’s a big target for this team, so much so that he drew many pass interference penalties during their late-game comeback as he’s a deep threat that can win over the top if you aren’t careful. This young man can go up for 50/50 balls and come down with the contested catch over the defender by high-pointing the ball. Once he secures the catch he gets upfield quickly, he’s also able to make possession catches in the gap between the outside linebacker and safety. That’s not all he can do, he also blocks downfield for his teammates and plays through the whistle when doing so. Mr. Bentancur has room to develop and hone his craft further, that being said keep an eye out on this young man as his stock could most certainly increase after this fall season.
#4 Brendan Hernon Brendan Hernon 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Marian Central | 2022 State IL 6’2 190 22′ QB Twitter
Mr. Hernon is at the helm of this offensive unit. We get to see his mobility during QB design runs and when he pulls the ball down to scramble if nobody is open downfield. This young man is able to make level 3 throws by putting touch on the deep ball resulting in the ball being put into the receiver’s basket. He’s also able to put zip on the ball to complete the pass in tight coverage and to get the ball off under pressure. During their late-game comeback attempt, he took command of this offense making the right reads and marching this offense down the field. It’s this type of potential that intrigues me the most about this young man, go see for yourself with his game highlights below!

#18 Colin Piedmonte 22′ WR
Mr. Piedmonte is another big target on this offense. He has the ability to go up for 50/50 balls to make contested catches by high pointing the ball. Once he secures the catch he plants his foot turning upfield quickly and has the ability to utilize a toe-tap to come down with the sideline catch. During run plays, this young man blocks downfield for his teammates giving them a block to run off of in open space.
#54 Robert Miner Robert Miner 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB Marian Central Catholic | 2022 State IL 6’0 210 22′ LB
Mr. Miner fills holes in run support where he takes on blocks head-on. As he does this, it allows him to meet the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage on occasion to make the tackle on the play for no gain. He does a good job timing his blitzes are, when he does it results in him blowing up plays in the backfield for a loss on the play.
#2 Jack Whalon 6’0 185 22′ RB Twitter
Mr. Whalon can catch out of the backfield, once he secures the catch he plants his foot into the ground to turn upfield quickly added to his YAC stat line. He has the speed to turn the corner with his quick acceleration, once he does so he has the ability to blow past the 2nd level of defenders (this is also seen when he bounces plays to the outside).
Notables:
#33 Noah Maurer 5’10 195 23′ LB
Key Takeaways
- Slow start, once things got clicking on offense they were hard to stop
- 2 Big WR targets on this offense, both have the ability to win routes 1 on 1 downfield
- Defense made key stops in the 2nd half getting the ball back to their offense
- Under .500 team right now, can see them finishing above .500 & in the playoffs
