Continue ReadingWe had some great defensive performances this past week. A lot of players were game changers and the few we have listed really left their marks on the game. Here we have some new players named and listed who we will hopefully seen on the list again later on in the season. Great effort was showed by all below and for those not listed, your time is coming.
LB Connor Been (2022) – Klein Cain
I do not know where to start with Been’s performance vs. Klein. Been had a record setting night, flying to the ball and being wherever the ball was. He was hitting gaps with purpose and showed his skills in coverage. Been set a new school record with 22 (yes twenty-two) tackles, 5 TFLs, 2 sacks, and a pass breakup. This man was everywhere and his motor was second to none. Been is a flat out ball player and you want him on your team. I am not sure how he will top this performance, but expect him to go off again!
DB Cade Carter (2022) – Fulshear
Carter showed great versatility in the game vs. Lake Creek. He showed much skill in pass coverage as well as run support. Carter was a thumper, tagging everybody he came into contact with. He played his zones correctly and read the opposing quarterbacks eyes like a book, which led to 2 very impressive interceptions. On the night, Carter had 7 total tackles to go along with his 2 INTS and PBUs. He has definitely made a move on the radar and should have a good amount of attention on him after a performance like that
LB Josh Gulizia (2023) – Katy Jordan
Gulizia is an important piece to the young Jordan Warriors defense at the Mike position. He is a downhill player with good size, who continues to get better every game he plays. Versus Lake Belton, Gulizia was very busy, filling in running lanes and making plays in the backfield against a very talented offense. He racked up double digit tackles and had a momentum swinging onside kick recovery that gave his team a chance to win the game. As you watch film, you can see Gulizia gaining confidence and the potential is not only high for him, but for the Jordan Warriors as well! Watch out for this team as they continue to challenge everybody who they face.
DB Samuel Kalu (2022) – Tompkins
Kalu had a very productive game vs. Cinco Ranch. He was involved in many of the plays and provided excellent run support. Kalu is a player who plays comfortably in space and is not afraid to make plays when they are needed. He racked up 10 total tackles Thursday night and will have eyes on him for the upcoming games.
Other Notable Performances:
DB Carson Williams (2024) – Cypress Creek
2 INTs
LB Nathan Rothwell (2022) – Cinco Ranch
15 total tackles – 1 FR
LB Zach Rocha (2023) – St. Thomas Catholic
11 total tackles – 2 TFLs
