A five pack of tailbacks went off in Week 4, making the most of their carries – no matter how many they got. This week’s Game Balls features a sophomore and three seniors, all of whom did some significant damage in their respective teams’ wins.
Malachi Washington, Myrtle Beach – We’ve been waiting for Washington to crank it up a notch, having taken over the position this year so Cam Ward Cam Ward 5'4" | 170 lbs | LB Myrtle Beach | 2023 State SC could focus more on his defensive duties. Against Darlington, Washington finally did. He finished the game with 11 carries for 116 yards and two scores, proving the Seawawks do have more balance than most would think.
J’Shawn Anderson J’Shawn Anderson 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Hartsville | 2023 State SC /Carmello McDaniel, Hartsville – The Red Foxes certainly aren’t back to their spot near the top of Class 4A, but an impressive region win against North Myrtle Beach was a huge step in the right direction. Thank Anderson (pictured) and McDaniel for that. The tandem paired up for 28 carries for 266 yards and four scores. For the season, they’re up to 891 yards and 14 touchdowns, each of them having scored seven times.
Terry McKithen Terry McKithen 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB West Florence | 2022 State SC , West Florence – The Knights senior knew he was going to get every bit of coach Jody Jenerette’s confidence heading into the season after some player losses, and McKithen proved why in a region win against Wilson. The running back had 23 carries for 143 yards and reached the end zone three times.
Joseph Hicks, Whale Branch – Want to talk best bang for your buck? Go ahead and give that nod to Hicks for his performance against Military Magnet. The tailback banged out 155 yards and three touchdowns. On three carries. The senior had scoring runs of 7, 63 and 85 yards, pushing the No. 3 Warriors to another win.
