For some teams, a few individual players carry the load for their program as they average a few TD’s each game. With this being said, some players single handed performance makes all the difference and can be the deciding factor between a successful season, and an off year. Below, feel free to check out the top 4 leaders in TD’s so far in the state of Georgia. As time goes by, we expect this list to change, but it will be fun to see who manages to continue to make the list.
12 / Johne’ss Davis- (RB) Athens Christian
Davis not only leads the state in TD’s by a 4 TD margin, but his performance has helped to lift his team to a 3-0 record. As we have mentioned before when discussing his success, he not only averages a high volume of yards per game (235 yards), but he averages about 11 yards a carry, making him a lethal threat when the ball is in his hands. Most recently, during their big win against Oglethorpe, Davis ran for 6 TD’s. Yes, you read that correctly- 6 TD’s. If this isn’t impressive in itself, the fact that he ran for 255 yards should speak for itself. If these early signs of his contributions to his team is foreshadowing of anything to come, we fully expect him to hold the record for most TD’s in the state for quite some time.
8 / Duke Watson- (RB) Mary Persons
Watson, who happens to be in a 4 way tie for the second highest TD total in the state, has managed to have a strong season so far in his own right. To this point, he has averaged about 165 yards a game within a mere two games this season. In these two games, his contributions have helped his team to achieve a 2-0 record. To start the season, Watson hit the ground running, as he finished week 1 with 2 TD’s, and over 110 yards on only 9 carries. Following this, Watson performed out of his mind last week, rushing for 6 TD’s as well, and 213 yards. This week, we will be checking in to see if he can continue to perform at the same rate, because if he can, he may become a regular on this list as the weeks progress.
8 / DJ Rogers- (RB) Pepperell
Rogers, who has also totaled 8 TD’s this season, has managed to do so on a team that is currently 1-2 after 3 weeks of the regular season. Regardless, he has managed to put his best foot forward. During the first week of the season, Rogers rushed for 3 TD’s and 152 yards. The following week against Heard County, Rogers only ran for 32 yards, but redeemed himself with a TD. Following this tough performance, Rogers had the best game of his season last week as he rushed for 285 yards, and 4 TD’s on 27 carries. This game in itself was a statement game proving that he is effective runner for his team when the ball is in his hands. If he can continue to do so, time will only be able to tell.
8 / Dominick Cosper- (RB) Trinity Christian
It is impressive to see Cosper’s performance rank against some of the top programs in the state, especially due to the fact that he has done so for a private school in Sharpsburg, GA. Not only is he tied with 3 others for the 2nd place spot in the state with 8 TD’s, but he has managed to score a TD in each of his team’s 3 games this season. Not only has his team found themselves 3-0, but Cosper has found himself to be a big reason for that success. During week one of the season, Cosper hit the ground running, rushing for 2 TD’s. He then went on to follow this performance up with 4 TD’s in week 2, and 2 additional TD’s in last week’s game. Due to this tenacity that he runs with, he has managed about 90 yards a game this season. We’ll see if he can keep this up.
