This has come with its fair share of success on the ground, as some of the best backs in the state have already shown their desire to be the best. Below, we have listed some of the state’s leaders in rushing to this point of the season. As this will likely change very quickly, it will also be interesting to see who can maintain this level of production, and who else will see themselves fall in and out of this list.
Johne’ss Davis- Athens Christian Academy (450 yards)
Even though we are only in the second week of the regular season, Davis has already hit the ground running, totaling 450 yards so far this season. This is more yards than most players have a quarter way, to half way through the season. To start year, Davis rushed for 251 yards, and 4 TD’s to take down Walker High School. Following this dominant performance, he rushed for 199 yards, and 2 TD’s on 22 carries, proving that Athens Christian Academy’s running game is nothing to mess with. As the year will only continue to progress, we expect Davis to continue to produce at a high level, and to add on to the team’s 2-0 record.
Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA – North Cobb (448 yards)
Not only has Singleton helped to contribute to North Cobb’s 1-1 record this season, but he has managed to be 2 yards shy of the rushing title entering into week 3 of the regular season. Even more impressive, he has managed to do this as a QB. During their week one loss to Buford, he rushed for 224 yards, averaging 7.7 yards on the ground. Unfortunately, this was not enough to help get his team the win, but during week 2, his second game of 224 yards was more than enough to get his team the win, as they came out on top, 40-21. Singleton has also had his own fair share of success in the air, so he will likely be one of the more successful players this season based off of statistics alone.
Dax Reese- Briarwood Academy (446 yards)
Reese may be largely unknown to many high school football fans, but this has not held him back from totaling 446 yards on the ground this season. If he continues at this rate, he may finish the year as one of the top rushers in the state. To start the season, Reese hit the ground running, as he helped lead his team to a win against Piedmont Academy with his 335 yards, and 4 TD’s on 25 carries. During week two, as one could expect, Reese had another big game, but could not live up to his huge performance during week one. In this win against John Hancock, he finished the game with 111 yards, and a TD. His longest run of the night was of 30 yards, as he further proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with this season. If this continues to be true, only time will tell.
Solomon Rayton- Arabia Mountain (426 yards)
Rayton has managed to have a successful season to this point for the simple fact that he has contributed to an overall 2-0 record for his team. His 426 yards has also come with 4 TD’s, making Arabia Mountain’s running game something to be taken seriously. During week one of the season, Rayton came out of the gate pounding the rock, as he totaled 224 yards, with an average of 7.2 yards a carry. As week two came around, he totaled about 6.5 yards a carry, but also totaled about 202 yards, with his longest run being 74 yards. Entering into week 3, it will be interesting to see if he can sustain this same success, and if he can overtake some of the other leaders on this list.
