Perhaps, one of the harder categories to succeed in is that of the interception category. To even catch an interception takes multiple factors, including that of defensive discipline, and quick reactionary skills. At times, it will even take special physical talent and body positioning to make this happen. Other times, interceptions are caused due to poor passes on the QB’s part. Regardless, throughout the state, there have been clear leaders in this category already. Feel free to view them below.
Nyshun Parks- Taylor County (3)
Not only does Parks lead the entire state of Georgia in interceptions, but he is also one of the most versatile players that Taylor County has on their roster. Not only does he play CB, but he plays RB, and WR as well. What makes his 3 interceptions this season even more impressive is the fact that he managed to do this all in one week- while most players in the state have not come close, even after having played 2 games this season. During his week one performance, his team also saw their first win of the season, and outside of his 3 interceptions, he also totaled 5 tackles, and 2 TD’s. If this is any indicator of how his 2021 season may play out, we are certainly tuned in and excited to see what is next.
KJ Reid- Social Circle (3)
Tied with Parks, Reid has also totaled 3 interceptions to this point of the season. Unlike Parks, this comes over the span of two games. Luckily, for Reid and Social Circle, these 3 interceptions over the course of the past two weeks has helped to contribute to a 2-0 record. During their week one win against Providence Christian, Reid not only had 4 tackles and 2 interceptions, but he also had 1 receiving touchdown. Last week, Reid continued to show out, as he totaled over 100 receiving yards, 5 tackles, and 1 interception. Because of his performance so far this season, to put it lightly, he is certainly on the radar for plenty of people now.
Ty Adams- Swainsboro (2)
Due to a huge week 2 performance, Ty Adams has found himself to be one of the top interceptions leaders in the entire state. During his team’s week 2 win against Jefferson county, he not only caught 2 interceptions, but he also also had 3 total tackles, with 2 of them being solo tackles. Going into the rest of the season, one can expect Adams to continue to add to these numbers, especially if he found a way to be in statewide contention for the most interceptions to this point of the season.
Mic Wasson- Pinewood Christian (2)
Wasson, who is a senior this season, has managed to total 2 interceptions so far this season, while also competing against some of the best DB’s in the state for the interception title. Last week, he helped his team come on top with a huge win over Robert Tooms Christian Academy. In this win, Pinewood Christian defeated them 56-8, and Wasson, also being the QB, played a huge part on the offensive side of the ball as well. On offense, he threw for 179 passing yards, and 2 TD’s. On defense, outside of his 2 interceptions, he also made 4 total tackles, with one being for a loss. As the season progresses, we think Wasson is worth keeping track of, especially due to his contributions on both sides of the ball.
