A few teams in the MIAA started their season last Friday, the rest of Maryland’s season openers are Sept.3rd – 4th, so all eyes were on these games. SFA vs St. Thomas Aquinas(Fla.), MSJ vs St. Mary’s Ryken, Calvert Hall vs John Carroll, St. Vincent Pallotti vs Brasher, Boys Latin vs Bishop Ireton (Va.), Avalon vs Bishop McNamara, and Archbishop Spalding vs St, Augustine Prep (NJ). Lets take a look at who made some big plays to kickoff this MIAA season.
Dominic Kibby – #5, 2022, WR, Mount St. Joseph
“Big play K” may be his name if he keeps this up. Kibby is emerging as a deep ball threat, in two back to back weeks he has came up with two deep ball catches, one for a touchdown, per game. The first week was in a preseason scrimmage I attended. When the ball is in the air he shows great contested catch ability. In MSJ’s week 1 matchup Kibby contributed one of the two Gael touchdowns to get the tough 14-10 win over St. Mary’s Ryken.
Check out my highlights from Saturday’s game against the incredible Saint Mary’s Ryken Knights. Both teams came out and played their hearts out. St. Joe came out with the dub thanks to our great defensive unit as well as our qb @WinstonjWatkins And our Offense line. @MSJ_Football pic.twitter.com/m3MhEK0I12

Daniel Harper Daniel Harper 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Calvert Hall | 2023 State MD Jr– #28, 2023, RB, Calvert Hall
Harper was Maryland’s leading rusher last weekend with 11 Carries, 147 Yards, and 2 Touchdowns. The numbers came to no surprise when you look into his toolbox of skills. Equipped with a 10.8s 100 meter dash, and 22.3s 200 meter dash, Harper sprinted the Cardinals to their first W. This athlete is not just a speed back, he lowers his shoulders and breaks arm tackles with ease. On his longest run of the night he lowered his shoulder and spun out of a crowd for a 80+ yard touchdown.

Noah Brannock Noah Brannock 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Calvert Hall | 2023 State MD – #4, 2023, QB, Calvert Hall
Noah showed why he was an Elite11 regional invitee this off season. He showed great ball placement and touch on his throws. He impressed with a 68 yard bomb for a touchdown, and nice 17 yard touchdown pass. He puts enough arch on the ball to get over defenders and can drop it in the corner of the end zone where the receiver can easily make a play.
7/14 Attempts , 132yards, 2 Touchdowns
KP Price KP Price 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB St. Frances | 2023 State MD – #2, 2023, CB, Calvert Hall
Price had an outstanding game on the defensive side of the ball for the Cardinals. With a stat line of 6 tackles, 1 INT, and 1 forced fumble, he did everything but score a touchdown himself. The Cardinals did capitalize off of the forced fumble and took it in for a scoop and score touchdown. He showed great pursuit and high motor, consistently making tackles on the opposite side of the field.

Gavin Proutt – #51, 2022, DE, Boys Latin
Proutt recorded 5 Tackles, 4 TFL , 3 Sacks, and 1 fumble recovery in the Lakers 21-12 win over Bishop Ireton (Va.). He showed good speed and quickness off the edge and in pursuit. He has a high motor, fighting through/around would be blockers on his way to the ball. He used as fast swim move almost to perfection to blow past Bishop Ireton’s O-linemen. Average offensive linemen cannot keep up with his speed an athleticism.
Notable Players:
William Urquia – #4, 2022, CB, Archbishop Curley
Interception for a touchdown and a huge hit while coming down to defend an out pattern.
Kam Custis – 2022, LB/DE, Gilman
5 Sacks in a scrimmage.
