Every Wednesday, we’ll take a look at some of the top available prospects in Oklahoma’s 2022 class. We’re still months away from the first signing day, but these prospects are still available and should be priorities for college coaches who recruit the state of Oklahoma. Be sure to check back every Wednesday for a new batch of uncommitted prospects and see who some of the best available are in the 2022 class!
[player_tooltip player_id="130378" first="Brandon" last="Ramsey Jr"]. - Defensive Back - Owasso
Owasso’s defense is loaded with talented prospects and it’s not crazy to think that close to half or even more than half will end up signing with Division 1 programs. One of those prospects that should be signing at that level is cornerback [player_tooltip player_id="130378" first="Brandon" last="Ramsey Jr"]. With Owasso missing a few pieces in their secondary to injury, it was Ramsey who drew the assignment of lining up against Edmond Santa Fe All American wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"] in their season opener against the Wolves. Shettron still made plays because he’s going to make plays against everyone this year. However, the Owasso coaches were very impressed with how Ramsey did in 1 on 1 situations against the All American. One of our writers was also impressed with Ramsey and signaled him out during the scouting report on Owasso following the game. Ramsey has been offered by a few programs but his stock is continuing to go up. Ramsey is currently ranked as the 60th best overall prospect and the 9th best DB prospect in the state’s 2022 class and that’s going to be significantly higher when we update the rankings in October. Ramsey is turning into a lockdown corner and should be considered one of the better ones at his position in this senior class.

[player_tooltip player_id="38690" first="Chase" last="Faber"] - Linebacker - McAlester
Staying on the defensive side of the ball with one of the more productive linebackers in the state from a year ago. McAlester linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="38690" first="Chase" last="Faber"] had an outstanding sophomore season and took his game to another level last fall as a junior. He had over 150 tackles and was consistently showing up in an opponent’s backfield. McAlester made their run to the semifinals and many people talked about the McAlester offense with breakout star running back [player_tooltip player_id="91049" first="Erik" last="McCarty"], and rightfully so. However, Faber and the McAlester defense were so important to getting the Buffaloes in a position to have success. From winning important games in district play to making that playoff run, Faber was one of the more consistent players from start to finish. Coming into his senior year, Faber is considered one of the top linebackers in the state’s senior class. We got a chance to see him in action with C4’s 7v7 team throughout the spring and he showcased his skills to running around and covering ground in a hurry. But at his size, Faber is certainly at his best when he’s running down hill and meeting a running back in the hole or on the outside and when he meets the ball carrier, that ball carrier goes down in a hurry.

[player_tooltip player_id="48668" first="Gavin" last="Freeman"] - Wide Receiver - Heritage Hall
Flipping to the offensive side of the ball for our next standout and it’s Heritage Hall wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="48668" first="Gavin" last="Freeman"]. We’ve written quite a bit about Freeman over the last year and we have a pretty simple explanation behind that. He’s one of the best playmakers in the state of Oklahoma. His junior year was outstanding and he earned All State First Team honors because of it. Freeman has continued that throughout the offseason and has already gotten his senior year off to a good start in Heritage Hall’s two scrimmages. He barely touched the ball and they limited how much contact he would get to keep him healthy going into the year. And while we don’t have the exact stats in front of us, it seemed like about half or more than half of the touches that Freeman got went for touchdowns. We’ve written about Bixby’s [player_tooltip player_id="38679" first="Braylin" last="Presley"] and how he’s the most electric player in Oklahoma. Freeman is right there and in that conversation. He can catch a bubble screen and in the blink of an eye go 80-yards for a touchdown. We have no doubt that Heritage Hall will continue to get creative with getting the ball into Freeman’s hands and letting him make plays. Tulsa jumped on board and offered Freeman last week. With another strong start to the season, more programs should be flocking to OKC to try to land this standout receiver in December.

[player_tooltip player_id="38691" first="Maliek" last="Bogard"] - Defensive End - Beggs
One of the prospects that I got a chance to see in person last week was Beggs defensive end [player_tooltip player_id="38691" first="Maliek" last="Bogard"]. I had Bogard circled as a prospect I wanted to watch closely as he moved to Beggs after a short season with Okmulgee last year. Bogard was also coming off an offseason in which he had knee surgery and because of that, he was limited in what he was able to do in terms of offseason camps and showcasing his talents there. In week zero, Beggs fell to Lincoln Christian on the road, but Bogard had a strong showing from the defensive end position. Especially in the first half, Bogard was consistently beating his man and getting into the backfield. He would either disrupt a running play and cause a colission at the line of scrimmage or he would get to the quarterback and force a quicker pass than anticipated or he brought down the quarterback in the backfield. Bogard is very impressive when you look at his physical stature. His speed doesn’t appear to be a question and he has a quick first step off the line. However, he was very limited in the second half and we weren’t able to see him play for all four quarters. But Bogard is still one of the top defensive end prospects in the state’s senior class and finally seeing him in person validated that opinion.

[player_tooltip player_id="38675" first="Will" last="Thomas"] - Offensive Lineman - Union
We go from one side of the line of the scrimmage to the other with Union offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38675" first="Will" last="Thomas"]. And just like Bogard, Thomas is coming off an offseason in which he had knee surgery and missed the majority of his opportunities at camps because he was rehabbing. However, we’ve already gotten a chance to see the Union big man in action during their mini game against Edmond Santa Fe and it was quite impressive. He was a one-man wrecking ball up front for Union. Granted, when you watch the entire Union offensive line, you come away convinced that they might be the best O-Line in the state, regardless of class. But leading it at left tackle is Thomas. Union has some special prospects on that line but Thomas is the real deal and is the top senior prospect that sets up the running attack that is going to be so tough to stop. With Union running the ball, Thomas is able to showcase his talent and what he does best. Which is simply firing off the ball, locking onto a defender and taking that defender to the ground. Thomas hasn’t missed a step since coming back from the offseason surgery and he’s already considered one of the top offensive lineman prospects in the state’s senior class and that hasn’t changed.
