Unbeaten Spruce Creek Has Improved

Nobody will confuse Spruce Creek’s 3-0 start with a run at a 7A state title, but head coach <strong>Andy Price</strong> and his Hawks are more than pleased at the way 2021 has gone so far. After a 2020 season that ended 6-5, the fans in Port Orange can see that an outstanding off-season has added up to wins over Daytona Beach Seabreeze (32-20), Jacksonville Mandarin (15-14) and Daytona Beach Mainland (10-9). With an away game this Friday night at Winter Park Lake Howell (1-2), the schedule still has some challenges along the way that Coach Price and this football team are feeling more comfortable about each week. With unbeaten Flagler Palm Coast and an always tough Cocoa program still left to play, playoffs remain a real possibility. With a senior class that is not only talented, but experienced, leadership has been key, and could be the reason why the Hawks remain unbeaten. Seniors such as <strong>Maverick Baronowski</strong> (LB, 6-3, 215 – 4.4 GPA, 1300 SAT), <strong>Colin King</strong> (OL, 6-5, 300 – 4.6 GPA, 1310 SAT),  <strong>Sam Rizzo</strong> (LB, 6-1, 220 – 3.9 GPA, 1100 SAT), <strong>Ki’son Williams</strong> (OL/DL, 6-2.5, 310 – 2.9 GPA), <strong>Kevin Minckler</strong> (WR, 5-11, 185 – 3.9 GPA, 19 ACT), <strong>Corey Epps</strong> (DB, 5-11, 185 – 3.4 GPA) and standout receiver <strong>Keyshawn Mobley</strong> (6-1, 180 – 2.6 GPA). The Hawks have also relied on <strong>Garrett Lenois</strong> (OL, 6-1.5, 300 – 4.1 GPA, 1180 SAT), <strong>Jeremy Brunson</strong> (OL, 6-0, 265), <strong>Aaron Robinson</strong> (WR, 5-9, 165 – 4.3 GPA, 1270 SAT), <strong>Isaiah Derrick</strong> (DL, 5-10, 280 – 3.3 GPA) , <strong>J.J. Pandelos</strong> (DB, 6-0, 190 – 3.8 GPA, 1160 SAT) and linebacker <strong>Josh Bogenschutz</strong> (5-10.5, 195 – 3.7 GPA, 1080 SAT). <strong>WATCH OUT FOR THE UNDERCLASSMEN</strong> As solid as this senior class has been, it’s the underclassmen who truly hold the key for the future – as well as the present. Juniors <strong>Jesse Smith</strong> (DE/TE, 6-5, 225 – 3.2 GPA), <strong>Demarcus Creecy</strong> (QB, 6-2, 170 – 3.8 GPA), <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="128578" first="Jayson" last="Edwards"] </strong>(OL, 6-6, 350 – 3.2 GPA), <strong>Jarique Cooper</strong> (DB, 6-0, 170 – 2.5 GPA),  <strong>Jake Batillo</strong> (LB, 6-0, 210 – 4.1 GPA) and defensive back <strong>Bert Plummer</strong> (6-0, 165 – 2.8 GPA) are all solid. Other juniors such as <strong>Ben Soard</strong> (DB, 6-0, 180 – 3.4 GPA), <strong>Jayden Lunghai</strong> (LB, 5-11, 190 – 2.8 GPA), <strong>Connor Barie </strong>(LB, 5-11, 165 – 4.5 GPA), <strong>Demarko Evans </strong>(WR, 6-0, 165 – 2.8 GPA) and receiver <strong>Quamon Cunnison </strong>(5-6, 155 – 3.5 GPA) have also made a solid contribution. Class of 2024 sophomores <strong>Elijah Walker</strong> (OL, 6-4, 305 – 3.1 GPA), <strong>Madden Santiago</strong> (OL, 6-4, 295 – 4.3 GPA) and rising quarterback <strong>Luke Smith</strong> (6-2, 185 – 4.0 GPA) will be exciting.
