Wimberley won the contest 45-21 and did most of the work through the air behind sophomore quarterback Cash McCollum, who threw for four touchdowns with no interceptions. Lampasas struggled through the air with junior quarterback Dylan Sanchez throwing two interceptions in the game. Here are the top players from both teams from the game!
1. Case Brister (SR-RB) – Lampasas High School (Lampasas, TX)
Stats: 113 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 15 total tackles
2. Nate Borchardt (SR-WR) – Lampasas High School (Lampasas, TX)
Stats: 10 receptions, 181 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown
3. Cash McCollum (SO-QB) – Wimberley High School (Wimberley, TX)
Stats: 387 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns
McCollum was poised and accurate, able to throw deep balls while deep in his own endzone. He was excellent off of play-action and would make passing plays easy, especially on short screens and other short pass plays. However, his deep throws are also something to marvel at as he has a heck of an arm to fling the ball downfield and excellent accuracy to get the ball in a spot to where his receiver can catch it but it could not get picked off. This is a young quarterback to keep an eye on especially after an impressive performance.
4. Moses Wray Moses Wray 5'11" | 215 lbs | RB Wimberley | 2022 State TX (SR-RB) – Wimberley High School (Wimberley, TX)
Stats: 82 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
5. Nathan Simpson (SR-DB) & Juan Olmedo Barraco (SR-DB) – Wimberley High School (Wimberley, TX)
Stats: Combined two interceptions in the game
Both these defensive backs made key plays to help with the win for Wimberley. For Simpson, he not only made great plays on defense but on offense as well and really showcased his speed and agility on the field. On defense, he displayed great field awareness and could dissect where the play was going. He also supplied great coverage, especially on his interception play and was just in the perfect spot for the pick.
