The Warren Blue Devils came out ready to play after scoring 2 points in their week 2 loss against Main South.
The Blue Devils scored early and often and ended up with 56 points in a dominant performance in this cross-town matchup against Zion-Benton.
It's well documented that this Blue Devil team is more than capable of making a state championship run this season, and to accomplish that feat, they'll need more performances like the one they put out this past Friday against Zion-Benton.
So without further ado, let's get to know some of the prospects who had standout week 3 performances...

[player_tooltip player_id="20874" first="Maurice" last="Edwards"] | RB | ’22

Edwards reminded everyone in attendance why he’s the #5 ranked prospect in Illinois’ 2022 class. The Vanderbilt commit was a man amongst boys as he raced his way to three touchdowns in the first half. His contact balance is off the charts. And although he may not appear to be a burner, I’ll be the first to tell you, after being on the sidelines and watching him fly by, it’s without a doubt he has the necessary speed to hit paydirt whenever he touches the ball and should fair well in the SEC next year.

[player_tooltip player_id="158019" first="Jailen" last="Duffie"] | DB | ’23

This kid is an exceptional talent. He’s a phenomenal athlete with track speed that can get it done on both sides of the ball, and he even adds value to his team with his ability to be a dynamic return man on special teams. But cornerback is where he makes his money. Duffie is probably one of the more physical cornerbacks I’ve evaluated during my time as a scout in Illinois. It’s not often that you run into a cornerback that relishes at the opportunity to dish out punishment, couple that with his exceptional cover skills and you have yourself a dominant cornerback in the makings.

Aidan Lucero | QB | ’22

Scoring 2 points the previous week was all the motivation Lucero needed as he threw for 4 touchdowns in a dominant performance against Zion. He was in rhythm out the gates and did a good job of getting his teammates involved by spreading the wealth. He’s got a big arm and his ability to improvise and make plays on the run is why I consider him one of the top quarterbacks in Lake County.

Jaylen Williams | WR | ’22

Williams appeared to be Warren's number one receiver and was by far the game's most dominant wideout. He had nearly 100 yards receiving with two touchdowns and solidified himself as a reliable deep threat that Zion had no answer for. He wasn't on my radar before this game, but he flashes good speed, has good hands, and has nice size for the receiver position—definitely a prospect to keep an eye on moving forward.

Joel Williams | ATH | '22

Williams' speed and quickness are on another level. His lone touchdown came on a swing pass out the backfield where he juked a defender to the ground and was off to the races in a blink of an eye. Williams is most dangerous in space and can be a nightmare in the catch-and-run game.

Xavier Schild | TE | ’23

At 6'3", Schild is a long and athletic tight end who has the potential to emerge as one of Lake County's top TE prospects over the next year. He had an impressive 14-yard touchdown reception where he had to contort his body to adjust to the ball which was a sight to see for someone his size.

The D-Line

Warren's d-line controlled the trenches and made it nearly impossible for Zion to get anything going on offense. Kameron Shaw, Jeremy Walton and Caleb Falls were the three d-line standouts that wreaked havoc throughout the entire game. Their athleticism is what made them virtually unblockable, and if it's worth noting, Zion has some pretty good offensive lineman. This group bottled up one of Lake County's best running backs in LaZarius Geater and made life hard for Zion's quarterback. If I had to take a guess, I would say that this unit is by far one of the strengths of Warren's defense.
