With a total of 626 combined yard between both teams, the game did not lack for big plays. In the end, Katy ended the game on the winning side, with the score being 21-14. Here are the stand out athletes on the Katy team.
Seth Davis Seth Davis 5'7" | 165 lbs | RB Katy | 2023 State TX (2023) I 5’8″, 170 lbs I #23 I RB
When I think of Katy football, I think the running back position. Backs like Rodney Anderson, Adam Taylor, and Kyle Porter made Katy the place to go for top tier running backs. Davis definitely kept that tradition alive! He ran hard and his vision was fantastic! The kid has S P E E D. Once he got passed a defender, there was no catching him. He was patient in letting the hole open up and sprinted through with intentions to score every time he touched the ball. On 31 carries, Davis rushed for 224, averaging 7.2 yards per carry and finishing with 2 touchdowns! Don’t let his weight fool you, he runs angry and with power. On his second touchdown, Davis broke an arm tackle in the first level, sprinted pass the LBs in the second level, and outran the third level to score on a 49 yard run!
Johnathan Hall (2024) I 6’2″ I #7 I S
Though only a sophomore, Hall belonged on that field! He was not afraid of contact, coming down form his safety position a number of plays to lay down the law. Hall was very disciplined in his reads and assignment, as no big plays were giving up when the Woodlands offense threw a couple of tricks plays at the Katy defense. He was good on his back pedals and broke on routes really well. On one play in particular, the Woodlands slot receiver, #10, ran a corner route, which was a really nice route. I noticed 10 a couple of times so I had my eyes on him this specific play (read my Woodlands article if you want more on #10). Hall continue to back pedal until the receiver to his spot and broke to the corner. Hall planted his right foot in the ground and stayed on top of the receiver! The play may seem insignificant because the ball did not go to 10, but the footwork and closing speed on Hall stood out to me!
Isaiah Smith (2022) I 5’10″ I #26 I RB/FB
Smith was much more than a fullback. He lined up an the wing back, TE, and RB as well. Read this very carefully, though Davis is a good RB, he does not…I repeat…does not have the game he does without Isaiah Smith on the field! This kid can block any and everything, and it is very apparent that he loves contact. Smith got a couple carries and ran hard gaining 24 yards on 5 carries. The lone receiving touchdown for Katy came on a pass to Smith, outrunning the LBs and making a nice hand catch in the end zone. Smith was very versatile and I would not be surprised if he would have a big day if put at running back majority of the game, I say that with no slight to Davis at all!
Adrian Parish (2023) I 5’11″ I #6 I CB
Quick football lesson for those unaware: if a player’s number/name is not called over the loud speaker, that does not mean he is not making any positive plays for his team. That was the case for Parish, for good reason! I really liked his sudden back pedal then break on the football. He was very smooth and it looked nature for him. In zone coverage he shut his area down, reading the receivers’ routes with anticipation. Parish almost came away with an interception, jumping a hitch route out of reach for the receiver. If he did not slip on the play Parish was definitely going to score!
Katy moved to 4-0 on the season, and these athletes did more than enough to get them there!
