The score was never out of hand for FBCA, but the way it was looking, they were not going to put it together to keep pace. Once the second half rolled around, FBCA locked it in and almost came away with a win! It went down to a 2 point conversion and an onside kick! The final score was 34-33, with St. John’s walking away victorious. Let me get to the individual standouts before I start giving a play by play of the game!
Cole Allen (2025) I 5’10”, 180 I #23 I ATH
Let me start this article with easily the best play on the field Friday night! Allen is a freshman….yes you read that right…a freshman, and though his stature verifies that with the eyeball test, his play could confuse you! You guys should know by now I only add a player’s weight for one reason; emphasize his stature, small or big. I was impressed with how physical he was, taking big shots and continuing to run. This kid lined up everywhere! RB, WR, S, KR and PR. I was waiting for a reverse pass and a field goal kick so I could say Allen literally plays every position on the field. Put the ball in his hands and watch him work! His cuts were sharp, making many players miss. He caught everything thrown his way, and he even ran down on kickoff and made a couple tackles on defense. And he was fast. Allen caught 9 passes for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed for 8 carries for a whooping 96 yards, and add another touchdown to that! He also had one kickoff return for 35 yards. And 6 total tackles, cause…why not, right? Allen, a freshman, accounted for 216 yard all purpose yards, on 18 total touches. i’m excited to watch this kids journey, I’m a big fan of Cole Allen.
John Perdue (2022) I 6’1″, 220 lbs I #11 I QB
I’m allowing you all to believe Perdue is a quarterback. This guy is a football player that can throw. Now, understand, this is no slight to Perdue, because he did throw for 198, going 16/21 and 2 touchdowns, BUT I said that statement because he also rushed for….wait for it….23 CARRIES! By far the most on the team! I loved Perdue’s running style, reminding me of a young Tim Tebow. He was strong and fast, carrying defenders with him into the endzone (1 rushing touchdown). Don’t let that fool you, this kid can throw! His throws were really nice. Perdue’s feet were active in the pocket, and he was accurate on the move as well. The senior combines for 321 total yards (123 on the ground). Perdue was fun to watch and his a playmaker!
Michael Skaribas (2022) I 6’3″ I #54 I DE
“Big time players…make big time plays…in big time games.” That is exactly what Skaribas did Friday night! He was active all night. He had a relently motor and used his hands really well. I noticed a couple of double team blocks where Skaribas did not make the play, but he still affected things. He held his own, not giving up much ground, and disrupting the play, closing the running lane and allowing the defensive pursuit to get the ball carrier down. Skaribas made the play of the game! FBCA just scored, and went for 2 to go up and win the game. The QB had time to read the field and make the game winning throw. Guess who shut the whole play down? That’s right, Skaribas! Big 54 put a rip move on the FBCA offensive tackle and belined towards the QB, wrapping him up, calling ball game! Though that was the biggest play of the game, that was not his only play. It got overlooked due to the nature of the game, but Skaribas accounted for 4 sacks on the night!
Miles Masterson (2022) I 6’0″ I #7 I RB/SB
Not all heroes wear capes, and not all heroes get deserved recognition, but the beauty of football is, if you can play, you will be seen. The senior lined up in a number of different positions, and contributed well. Masterson did not get many touches, but he made the most of every single one of them. One his lone reception, Masterson got open on the scramble drill. Initially being covered by a defender, 7 faked like he was running up field (I even believe he was going deep) and seemed to stop on a dime on the far FBCA sideline. Perdue found his with no defender 5 yards around him. Masterson made an awesome hand catch, and darted up the sideline, looking fast and made a couple people miss! the reception went for 55 yards. Couple that with 46 yards on 9 carries (averaging 5.1 yards), the senior quietly totaled 101 yards on 10 touches, third most of the team.
It was a nail biter, but these players willed St. John’s to a home win and a 3-0 record!
