Enjoy! The Bixby Spartans continued their winning streak on Friday night in Jenks with a 23-15 victory over the Trojans. Bixby has now won 38 consecutive games and they go into a bye week in week two before another showdown with Stillwater in week three. The Spartans are once again loaded and have some of the best prospects in the state. We take a look at some familiar faces and some new names that you’ll need to remember going into the rest of the year. If you missed our game recap, you can check that out RIGHT HERE. [player_tooltip player_id="38679" first="Braylin" last="Presley"] - 2022 Running Back Everyone in the state knows that Bixby senior running back and OSU commit [player_tooltip player_id="38679" first="Braylin" last="Presley"] is arguably the most electric playmaker in Oklahoma today. The story was no different on Friday night and he continued his trend of being at his absolute best in the biggest games of the season. We use the "most electric" moniker all the time with Presley but from now on, we’ll avoid it, because as we mentioned, everyone knows it and it’s played out. From now on, he’s just "Big Game Braylin". Look at what the future Cowboy has done in the games against Bixby’s toughest opponents and you’ll see why. Friday night, Presley was once again at his best as he was able to break a 74-yard touchdown run down the Bixby sideline. He had well over 100 yards rushing and was once again Bixby’s leading receiver on the evening. The only blunder on the evening was in special teams as Presley called for a fair catch, muffed the punt and was hit hard by a Jenks gunner in a bang bang play. Many in the press box thought that there should have been a flag against Jenks and the fumble negated. But that’s not how it happened on the field. [player_tooltip player_id="197183" first="Connor" last="Kirby"] - 2023 Athlete During the Bixby dynasty, the Spartans always seem to find an X-Factor that goes along with standout athletes like a Presley or any of their stars from the past. We might have found this year’s X-Factor as Bixby relied on junior standout [player_tooltip player_id="197183" first="Connor" last="Kirby"] to deliver on Friday night and he answered the call. They brought Kirby in as a wildcat quarterback throughout the evening in short yardage situations and he always managed to get positive yards. The 6’2 athlete is built very well and wasn’t asked to pass the ball very often, although he would do it occasionally. Bixby has their own version of the "Belldozer" from OU back in the days of Blake Bell at QB. Kirby will come in during short yardage situations and is essentially a power back. The Bixby offense is always creating new ways to cause problems for opposing defenses and the uptempo style has been the biggest problem for defenses for a few years now. Combine that with Kirby and Bixby’s offense looks like a well oiled machine. [player_tooltip player_id="91881" first="Dylan" last="Hasz"] - 2023 Athlete Whenever we’re covering a game, we have a notebook where we just write down numbers of players who make a few plays in a short amount of time. It only took about ten minutes of real time for us to write down [player_tooltip player_id="91881" first="Dylan" last="Hasz"]’s number, circle it and put a star by it. The junior standout was everywhere in the early going for the Spartans in their win on Friday night. However, he was severely limited to what he was able to do in the second half because of what Coach Loren Montgomery described as "being locked up". We can only assume that meant he was suffering from muscle cramps on a night where the heat index on the field felt like it was in the triple digits. Based on the way he began the game, we can only imagine what the full product would have been if he was able to go 100% for all four quarters. Hasz was a terror on offense and defense and is in the conversation for being the most versatile athlete on this Bixby team that includes the reigning Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year in Presley and his twin brother Luke, who is an All American and OU commit. But it was Dylan that was shining early on in the contest. We can’t wait to see what he does in full game situations. [player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"] - 2022 Linebacker We wrote about [player_tooltip player_id="55157" first="Jack" last="Puckett"] leading this linebacker group in last week’s practice report on the Spartans. We were very excited to see how he would look in one of the biggest games of the year and he lived up to the billing and then some. First off, physically, Puckett looks all of the part at well over 6’0 and is built like a prototypical linebacker. Then you watch him roam around and cause havoc and lead a very talented linebacking core for the Spartans and see the leadership qualities. We looked back at our last ranking update and June and we had Puckett listed as the 119th best prospect in the 2022 class. We’ll tell you right now. We’re updating the rankings in October, and Puckett will more than likely jump over 70 spots because that’s how impressed we were with his look and feel for the game. Granted, he never should have been in the triple digits but that’s an argument for another day. Puckett has to be considered a fast-rising recruit in this 2022 class that colleges should be paying attention to. We believe that Puckett should be considered a D1 prospect and recruited as such. Someone will be getting a very good football player. [player_tooltip player_id="197182" first="Miles" last="Hill"] - 2022 Linebacker A lot of what we wrote and said about [player_tooltip player_id="197183" first="Connor" last="Kirby"] can be followed up right here on the defensive side of the ball with [player_tooltip player_id="197182" first="Miles" last="Hill"]. We’ve written about how talented and deep the linebacking group is for the Spartans and here’s a perfect example of just that. Hill is a prototypical linebacker and would look great back there but he was lining up as a stand-up defensive end of even having his hand on the turf along the line of scrimmage. At the next level, Hill is a linebacker but on Friday night, he was causing havoc along the line of scrimmage and gives Bixby yet another weapon at that position. We mentioned this when talking with Montgomery following the game. Bixby has been known for their high-scoring offense but Bixby’s hard-hitting defense was one of our biggest takeaways on Friday night. Hill is another late bloomer that is now primed to have a breakout season for the Spartans. He was nowhere near our radar coming into this season but we’re only going into week two and he’s already there and once again primed for a big 2021 season in this very talented Bixby defense.
