1. Sean McKinney (JR-RB) – Lockhart High School (Lockhart, TX)
McKinney enjoyed a great start to his junior season against Victoria West last week. He rushed for 173 yards but scored one receiving touchdown. However, he will face off against Johnson this week. The Jaguars were very successful in stopping the run, allowing just 91 rushing yards in total and one touchdown. McKinney faces a bigger challenge this week but given his momentum, he should have a successful game.
2. Alexander Franklin III (SR-RB) – Leander High School (Leander, TX)
Franklin is in the same boat as McKinney. Franklin rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns, but Vista Ridge poses a great challenge, especially since the Rangers held Bowie to 17 points and only 67 total rushing yards and one touchdown. That being said, Vista Ridge struggled on offense and if Leander can keep that same pressure, Franklin will likely still explode on plays despite the toughness of the Vista Ridge defense. It should be an interesting contest to watch.
3. Re’Shaun Sanford Re’Shaun Sanford 5'7" | 155 lbs | RB Harker Heights | 2023 State TX II (JR-RB) – Harker Heights High School (Harker Heights, TX)
Sanford had one of the biggest games a running back could have last week, rushing for 238 yards and two touchdowns while also recording a receiving touchdown. Much like the other two backs, he also faces a challenging defense in East View, which held Westwood to 13 points last week. On top of that, East View’s offense is highly productive, meaning that both teams could get into a shootout which would make a win hard but could bode well for Sanford stat-wise and workload-wise. It could go down to the teams’ star players making the difference.
4. Jae’Lin Edmondson (SO-RB) – East View High School (Georgetown, TX)
On the other hand, East View’s running back Edmondson rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns last week, and with Harker Heights’ defense struggling against the run last week, Edmondson could see similar or better results. Against Weiss, Harker Heights allowed junior running back Daelen Alexander from Weiss to rush for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Considering what Edmondson did against Westwood, this match-up bodes well for him.
5. Cameron Cook (JR-ATH) – Stony Point High School (Round Rock, TX)
Another huge performance last week, Cook rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns while also having 84 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Although, he and Stony Point will face off against Bowie, which just came off of shutting down Vista Ridge, holding the Rangers to just seven points. The Rangers’ rushing game struggled with Vista Ridge often going backward on its running plays rather than forward. Where Cook could see success if Stony Point can not get its run game going, is through the air which is why Cook is so deadly because of how athletic he is regardless of the play.
