[player_tooltip player_id="104099" first="Peyton" last="Rottinghaus"], QB, Urbandale, Twitter
Rottinghaus went crazy on Friday night against Des Moines East, breaking the single game Urbandale record with a jaw dropping 410 yards. It only took 14 completions on 20 attempts through the air to get him there; 5 went for touchdowns. One of those scores went for 90 yards as Rottinghause stepped up in the pocket to avoid pressure and hit a teammate 40 yards downfield on a rope. Another came on a perfectly placed back side slant from 6 yards out.
Peyton Goode, QB, Ankeny Centennial, Twitter
Goode posted a big 150 yards and a touchdown passing and 72 yards and two touchdowns on the ground Friday night. On one touchdown Goode rolled right in the red zone looking for an open target, but everything was covered and there was a lot of pressure. He stepped up, changed direction, and escaped for the score. He could not be corralled and was decisive when throws weren’t there; he has elite mobility. When the throws were there he nailed them.
Darren Richardson, RB, Iowa City High, Twitter
Richardson was key to the Little Hawks game plan in week 5 and he came through with 204 yards and 4 touchdowns on 23 attempts. He is so good at taking what a defense gives and fighting for extra yards; he doesn’t waste carries. He wore the Iowa City West defense down with a bruising style of running the ball. Richardson blasted through first contact and showed great balance and power after it. There were too many broken tackles to count Friday night.
[player_tooltip player_id="152703" first="Jazan" last="Williams"], RB, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Twitter
By all accounts Kennedy’s week 5 win over Dubuque Senior was an extremely physical contest and Williams brought the hammer. He ran 34 times for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. Williams exploded into and through defenders to keep the chains moving and open up opportunities for his team to throw. The 5-0 Cougars have one of the most physically capable backs in Iowa. Pounding the rock the way he does can have Kennedy playing deep into the postseason.
[player_tooltip player_id="104715" first="Aidan" last="Hall"], WR, Harlan, Twitter
Hall did it all on offense catching 2 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown and carrying the ball 3 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns on Harlan’s way to a blowout win. He is so fast and that speed was as obvious as ever in week 5. One of his scores went for 70 yards on GT Power. The defense wasn’t out of position; Hall was just so much faster and beat everyone to space. He also scored on a vertical route by sprinting right through and by coverage to get wide open.
[player_tooltip player_id="104799" first="Logyn" last="Eckheart"], OL, Glenwood, Twitter
Glenwood was in control all night in week 5 against Hoover and rolled to a 42-0 victory. [player_tooltip player_id="104799" first="Logyn" last="Eckheart"] led the charge on both sides of the ball and took over the game in the trenches. On defense he was bull rushing Hoover’s Center to his back and running down the Quarterback to collect a sack. Then on offense, where he was especially impressive, he was generating a ton of movement on down and base blocks. Hoover’s 5 and 3 techniques had no chance.
[player_tooltip player_id="100843" first="Tamden" last="Webb-Tate"], LB, Ankeny, Twitter
Webb-Tate was flying to the ball from his field side Inside Linebacker position on Friday night against Roosevelt. His 5 Tackle, 2.5 TFL, .5 Sack effort helped the Hawks defense hold Roosevelt to just 37 rushing yards. Webb-Tate got his team off the field fast; Roosevelt only ran 39 total plays. He looked outstanding staying over the top of blocks on off-tackle plays and running the ball down at the line of scrimmage. Webb-Tate is super fast, especially at his size.
[player_tooltip player_id="100804" first="Andrew" last="Reed"], LB, Southeast Polk, Twitter
The Rams got back to their winning ways in week 5 with a rout of Waterloo West and the Rams defense was on a mission; they held the Wahawks to 65 yards of total offense. [player_tooltip player_id="100804" first="Andrew" last="Reed"] had a pick six and a fumble recovery to go along with 2.5 Tackles as part of that effort. His interception came when the Rams pinned the Wahawks back to their own end zone. Reed cut underneath a slant route perfectly as the ball was being delivered and ran it in for six.
[player_tooltip player_id="99933" first="Luke" last="Vonderhaar"], DL, Pleasant Valley, Twitter
The Spartans absolutely took it to Davenport North on Friday night keeping them off the scoreboard and limiting them to 93 total yards of offense; this is the best 3-2 team in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="99933" first="Luke" last="Vonderhaar"], known for his Offensive Line ability, crushed it on defense picking up 3.5 tackles, 1.5 Sacks, and 2.5 TFL as part of an incredible group effort. Vonderhaar’s ability to pressure the inside gaps kept Davenport North from being able to get anything going.
Aiden Hansen, DL, Lisbon, Twitter
Hansen delivered a signature performance in Lisbon’s win over a tough Wapello team to move to 4-1 on the season. He had 3.5 tackles, 1 sack, and 1.5 TFL at Defensive End and added 2 catches for 31 yards and a touchdown at Tight End. Hansen’s sack came on a well-executed bull rush when his defense brought edge pressure and he crashed the B gap. His touchdown came on a deep curl; he pulled the ball in and then dragged four defenders into the end zone.
Caleb Raisty, CB, Cedar Falls, Twitter
Cedar Falls has an opportunistic Defensive Back who has a nose for the ball in Corner Caleb Raisty. His coverage ability, a compliment to their great pass rush and run defense, has helped the Tigers to four straight wins. Raisty has the speed and range to cover deep zones really well and that’s exactly what he did to pick off a pass Friday when Muscatine was driving. He bailed to his deep quarter in cover 6, got over the top of a route, and snagged the ball out of the air.
