It was a tightly contested game until late in the 4th quarter. The Eden Prairie and Rosemount defenses dominated the game. The defenses didn’t allow for many yards or standout offensive performances, but here are some guys who were able to – at least in short spurts – make their mark on the game.
Joey Zach, Jon Sather, [player_tooltip player_id="105391" first="Will" last="Sather"], Noah Haeger, Andy Kaiser, Jermell Taylor Eden Prairie OL/TE
Like usual, on offense, the Eagles – and any team – go as their offensive line goes. Neither offensive line was consistent, but Eden Prairie’s front was just good enough. The Eagles picked up most of their positive yards on the right side of the offensive formation - behind [player_tooltip player_id="105391" first="Will" last="Sather"], Jon Sather, and Zach. The game’s lone touchdown came off the right side, and the two biggest runs on the fourth quarter field goal drive that put the game away came behind this trio.
[player_tooltip player_id="19021" first="Nick" last="Fazi"] Eden Prairie QB
Fazi made a strong throw to the outside for 20 yards. He showed touch on a quick pass over the middle. He can throw on the move and pick up yards on the ground – scoring the game’s only touchdown on the ground from 13 yards out. He showed poise and touch on a clutch short pass to the tight end on fourth and short near mid-field for twenty yards.
Javon Palmer-Pruitt Eden Prairie RB
Palmer-Pruitt has excellent feet. The defense often took away his initial hole, but he was effective bouncing runs to the outside for positive yards. His low center of gravity helps him with his cuts but also doesn’t give defenders much to hit. When he is hit, he has a powerful frame. Arm tackles are not going to bring him down. He picked up 20 yards on a 2nd and twelve behind Taylor, Zach, and Jon Sather. His best cut got him to the outside and allowed him to pick up a first down.
[player_tooltip player_id="116486" first="Jayden" last="Washington"] Rosemount RB
The Eagles’ defense didn’t give Washington much room, but the yards he picked up were well earned. Similar to Palmer-Pruitt, Washington is quick but powerful in both his upper and lower body. One run, he was hit at three yards and drove forward through tacklers for nine yards. The best run of the night – for either team - was turned in by Washington. He was hit behind the line of scrimmage, bounced off the tackle to the outside, cut back into the middle, and drove through defenders for seven yards.
Quick hits
Michael Gross Eden Prairie WR - contested catch on the outside for 20 yards, and then he caught a five-yard hook route
Jermell Taylor Eden Prairie TE - quick catch over the middle and later made a diving catch for a short gain
Luc Bouchard Eden Prairie WR - caught a short pass on fourth and short and ran for a twenty-yard gain
