Prep Redzone looks at the Class of 2023 quarterbacks in New Jersey whose stock has risen so far this season. These players have done enough so far to get our attention.
[player_tooltip player_id="207203" first="Brevin" last="Cooney"] | Ridgefield Park | 6-1 | 190
Current Rankings: N/A
Cooney completed 34-of-59 passes for 608 yards, six touchdowns, and one interceptions in his first three games. He’s a very mobile quarterback who would be even more dangerous if he used his legs more. Cooney sets up quickly in the pocket and gets rid of the football in a fast manner. He shows accuracy on his deep throws and on passes where he’s rolling out to either side.

We wanted to wait for a few games to see what he would do on the field. Four games is enough to know that he’ll be ranked higher during the next update. Grusser has completed 43-of-63 passes for 866 yards, 12 touchdowns, and two interceptions. He’s had limited time in his first four games due to his team’s dominance. Grusser passed for 330 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-13 win over Pascack Valley back on Sep. 10.
In the game against Pascack Valley, Grusser is able to showcase his ability to make all types of throws on the football field. Thanks to his offensive line and his patience, he's able to sit in the pocket and go through his progressions to complete passes downfield. Grusser also is a student of the game and is able to identify coverages before the play begins and already knows where the hole(s) will be in the defense.
College coaches were already aware of Grusser before the season. They definitley know who he is now.
