We came up with eight more prospects that are either new top performers in Week 6 on our radar or prospects that keep playing their rear end off week after week that should open up the eyes of college programs because of course that is what we want for these young men in the end! to the Prep Redzone Dakota subscribers, I give you part II of the top dogs from Week 6!
Nelson Wright Nelson Wright 5'9" | 200 lbs | RB Sioux Falls Jefferson | 2023 State | RB | Sioux Falls Roosevelt (2023)
Stat Line: 15 carries, 104 yards, one touchdown.
Watching Wright’s film against Harrisburg, you have to love the potential in this kid. His speed out the gates shows great explosiveness. Nelson also has solid patience in waiting for his offensive line to give him his gaps to run thru. Wright shows good footwork to get separation from the linebackers. A development Wright has is when to get to the outside lane, as he has the speed to make the outside cut but sometimes hesitates to get fully out there. I don’t think we have unwrapped his full potential as he’s mostly used as an inside-runner for the Roughriders and that outside game will unravel even more game for this young man. Will likely be a riser in our next 2023 rankings update.
Chance Gregg Chance Gregg 6'2" | 245 lbs | DL Herreid/Selby | 2022 State | DL | Herreid-Selby (2022)
Stat Line: 6 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks.
Gregg & the Wolverines got to play the first-ever high school game in Dacotah Bank Stadium, and he had himself an excellent game. He started off his tape by showing off his quick shedding ability to connect early in the play with the ball carrier. I really loved his focus on the second play, as he used his violent hands to drag the offensive linemen out of his way, and then multi-engaged while doing that to bring the ball carrier to the turf. On one of his two sacks on the day, I liked how Chance moved laterally and then had a strong contact level to make the sack in the backfield. Gregg wasn’t just a stud defensively, he rocked the boat in Aberdeen on the offensive line too. He has an excellent low stance and got some strong leverage on the Ipswich driving him back to the next level of play. That game film should seal the deal in my eyes, that this young man has the tools to play college football in 2022.
Colton Collins | RB | Lyman (2022)
Stat Line: 13 carries, 198 rushing yards, three touchdowns.
Collins hasn’t uploaded his tape since the 2020 season, but I came away impressed with the end of his last season’s game tape. This young man is a balanced runner that uses both the inside and outside lanes to get his yards. From what my eyes can see, he looks like a bully-back that makes effective quick cuts to get from point A to point B and has a good burst in between the tackles. Rarely on his film do you see the defense catching him with that speed, but he still has good strength thru contact as well and can catch passes out the backfield as well.
Landon Ruesink Landon Ruesink ATH Dell Rapids | 2022 State | WR/DB | Dell Rapids (2022)
Stat Line: 205 all-purpose yards, two touchdowns. Defense: Three tackles, one sack.
I have been watching Landon’s tape for a bit now and it just becomes mind-blowing how this kid only has one NAIA offer to his resume. This young man has a lot of fight in his game especially when the ball in his hands fighting for extra yard after extra yard. He has some elusive footwork that he uses to his advantage to get separation from the defender and showed that in his game tape against Sioux Falls Christian last Friday. He’s a WR prospect, but you can line up this kid anywhere and he’ll show what a pure athlete he is. Ruesink is just one of those kids if I am an opposing high school coach, I need to make sure I know exactly where this young man is lining up on the field, as his skill set can assist the Quarriers in many ways on all three sides of the ball. I really hope a Northern Sun offer comes in for this young man this Fall.
Brayden Sumption Brayden Sumption ATH Leola-Fredrick | 2024 State SD | QB | Leola-Frederick (2024)
Stat Line: 326 total yards (244 pass, 82 rush) four touchdowns.
It was a big week for Brayden Sumption Brayden Sumption ATH Leola-Fredrick | 2024 State SD of Leola-Frederick. He logged nearly 250 passing yards on just six completions which if my math reads correct, is more than FOUR first downs per pass completion in a big win against Northwestern Area. His 82 yards on the ground came from three carries, nearly three first downs per carry. We had a gut feeling that Brayden Sumption Brayden Sumption ATH Leola-Fredrick | 2024 State SD would be a stud after following his brother and Presentation signee Isaac Sumption Isaac Sumption ATH North Border | 2021 State , and that seems to be the case thus far. After watching his first clip of the film, we grasped that Sumption runs well thru contact and looks like he has good instincts when running the football. We hope to see more tape from Sumption as the 3-3 Titans run into North Central and then a tough matchup with the Ipswich Tigers to close out the regular season.
Brenden Begeman Brenden Begeman 6'2" | 195 lbs | RB Herreid/Selby | 2023 State | RB/DB | Herreid-Selby (2023)
Stat Line: 313 total yards (229 rush, 84 receiving, four touchdowns.
Begeman continues to show why he’s one of the most dominant 9-man prospects week after week in the Dakotas. In his game tape against Ipswich, he showed off a bigger catch radius than I have seen from him in recent films which just adds another element to his game as a pass-catcher. Begeman is a 6’2 200 pounder that is not a player as a defense you want to let get downhill as he has a pulverizing juke step that has caught some eyes of our national scouts and Division I coaches. With that size, he also shows durability and is a tough cat to bring down. Similar to Ruesink above but with better measurables, you need to analyze just where on the field he is as he’s just as strong defensively in some of the games I have watched as offensively. I am a big fan of this kid’s outside run game off the pitch, and I hope more scholarship-level college coaches have opened the door to reaching out to this young man as the gates for the 2023 class are now wide open.
Kaden Schmidt Kaden Schmidt DB Sioux Falls Washington | 2023 | DB | Sioux Falls Washington (2023)
Stat Line: 13 tackles, half-sack, half tackle for a loss, one interception.
Schmidt logged double-digit tackles in the Warrior’s close 17-10 loss against Brandon Valley. There is a lot to like about Kaden’s contact level on his hits from his sophomore film as that is the best skill set I see on tape from last season. He also shows strong speed when on the attack of the ball carrier. Schmidt can cover a decent coverage area based on last year’s film and I am sure it has improved into his junior season, as we can’t wait to see that game tape. This young man is an enforcer with that contact, as you get the best of him when the football is coming his way and it’s up to him to knock the receiver with the ball in stride as he shows good timing on his hits, nothing early, nothing late. I also like his footwork, and I think he can develop even better footwork from my eyes.
Jaxsen Grevengoed | WR | Sioux Falls Roosevelt (2024)
Stat Line: 7 catches, 153 receiving yards, one touchdown.
I am really excited to get Jaxsen Grevengoed after watching his film from Week 6 and beyond. He shows a strong burst of speed when he jumps off the snap. When the ball gets into his arsenal, he shows shifty footwork that can juke a defensive back out of their eyes if they are not careful. What I like most about his tape against Harrisburg was his endurance as he had great longevity to cash in on a long yardage touchdown without much slowing down at the end of his run into the end zone. Watching film from a few games back, we learn about Jaxsen’s balance in his feet around the sidelines. This young man does not fear contact either, as he will lower the shoulder when he feels it’s necessary. Look for Grevengoed to be on our watch list as it comes out in late October.
