Morgan Park HS vs Perspective HS of Technology game recap and standouts
Morgan Park traveled to Perspective highschool. It was the Mustang’s first game against an in conference opponent. This game included standouts on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. There were some players that made appearances for the first time this season and on Prepredzone that had a day.
Aaron Warren (QB)
Aaron Warren was dominant. He excelled at the three different positions (QB,RB, WR). He was responsible for 3 first half touchdowns in the air and on his feet. At quarterback, Aaron has shown over the first 2 weeks how strong his arm is. In this game, he seemed to have been more relaxed and mature by illustrating his ability to complete a deep post but also checkdown the ball to the flat and running backs. Giving what the defense gave him. As a runner, Aaron played with the same aggressive running style that includes him lowering his shoulder one play, and then making defenders miss as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="130591" first="Tysean" last="Griffin"]
[player_tooltip player_id="130591" first="Tysean" last="Griffin"] recorded a couple of receptions, a rushing touchdown, and secured some tackles inside and outside of the box as a corner as well. There hasn’t been one week that Tysean has not scored for the Mustangs. He serves as the playmaker and energizer for the team with his splash play ability. Every week you can look forward to him finding the endzone.
Christopher Durr Jr.
[player_tooltip player_id="160515" first="Chris" last="Durr"] Jr. caught passes at receiver, returned punts, and got his first interception of the season at free safety. This fall, Chris has started at the free safety position as a ball-hawk type player. Being only a sophomore, it’s been impressive the type of athlete that he’s been on the field. With the experience against the high powered offense of Fenwick HS week 1, and the highly variable offense that St. Viator HS offered in week 2, Chris looked comfortable this week. This game was great to see out of Chris, because of how successful he was during the camp season this summer. The game comes to players, and as a safety, it finally came to Christopher Durr Jr. this week.
Steve Wilson
Steve Wilson is a young linebacker who played his first starting varsity snaps last week against St. Viator, following an injury to [player_tooltip player_id="168916" first="Keyth" last="Williams"]. He’s a sophomore linebacker that made massive improvements from his first live varsity action against St. Viator last week. His run reads were quicker, his angles more prevalent, and poise in the box on display last night.
[player_tooltip player_id="201957" first="Marcus" last="Thaxton"]
Marcus is a Quarterback who as a freshman came in when starting quarterback Aaron was placed at other positions. He had good zip on the ball and threw a 40 yard over the shoulder rainbow for a touchdown in the second quarterback. He’s a player that the state of Illinois will get to know over the coming years!
The Mustangs played a complete game that had to, unfortunately, end early due to the technicalities of the stadium where they were playing. It will be great to see how the conference of the Chicago Illini Red Bird continues to progress as the weather starts to cool.
