Paint Branch vs Quince Orchard
This is the week 2 Montgomery County game of the week. Both of these teams are coming off of very impressive wins in week 1. This matchup is between two of the most storied programs in the county. Anytime two of the county’s elites match up it is must-watch football.
Paint Branch player to watch: Octavian Smith Octavian Smith 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Paint Branch | 2022 State MD – Smith is the best player on this Paint Branch squad. Smith may also be the best player on the field on Friday Night. Paint Branch is going to need Smith to make plays with his legs and arm to move the ball against this QO defense. Smith will also be key in shutting down one of QO’s many receiving options.
Quince Orchard player to watch: Connor Mcdonald – Mcdonald is one of many elite players on this offensive line. Paint Branch is always known for having a strong defense so this will be a test for the QO offense. Mcdonald will have an opportunity to show why people view him as one of the top lineman in the county.
Sherwood vs Urbana
Urbana is coming off a huge win over Richard Montgomery. Sherwood has high expectations and many view them as a real threat in 4A. This will be a big measuring stick game, and the winning team will definitely have put the rest of the state on notice.
Sherwood player to watch: Nathan Natoli – Natoli is one of the most important players on this Sherwood team. He is one of the top lineman in the county and will have an opportunity to dominate Urbana upfront. It would be wise to run behind Natoli on Friday.
Urbana player to watch: Wesley Sharper – Against Richard Montgomery Sharper was a big part of this Urbana offense. He is a big power back and will run hard. It will be interesting to see Sharper’s power against this strong Sherwood defensive line.
Kennedy vs Springbrook
These two teams are coming off of completely different week 1s. Kennedy is coming off a big loss to Rockville while Springbrook is coming off a huge 32-0 win against Watkins Mill. This is a big game as Springbrook can continue their momentum and have a big 2-0 start to their season. Kennedy has a tough game against Damascus next week so this is a big game for them as they need to grab some momentum before then.
Kennedy player to watch: Jerome Carey – Carey is a defensive lineman that has the ability to get skinny and slip blocks. Carey will have to have a big game in order to help out this Kennedy defense.
Springbrook player to watch: Kevin Mancia – Mancia is an absolute stud last week he led Springbrook in rushing. On the other side of the ball, he tallied a couple of sacks. Mancia will be the best player on the field Friday and expect him to put on a show.
Seneca Valley vs Gaithersburg
Seneca Valley looked really good in an impressive win over Clarksburg. Gaithersburg fell to Wootton. Seneca should be the strong favorite but Gaithersburg has the athletes to make it interesting.
Seneca Valley player to watch: Tylek Bright – Bright is a key 2-way player for Seneca. He is a key defensive piece that can make plays in the backfield. He is also a great back that is able to break off big runs. Bright will be key in a game where there should be plenty of athletes on the field.
Gaithersburg player to watch: Jalen Perry – Perry is a big physical interior lineman on both offense and defense. Perry will need to have a big game to match up with Seneca’s strong line.
