Another unusual and challenging football season officially kicks off Labor Day weekend.
High schools around Louisiana are still coping with the impacts of COVID-19 and now, too, Hurricane Ida’s run through the heavily populated southeast toe of the state.
But the talent and competition — and escape — provided by one of The Boot’s favorite seasons — along with carnival and crawfish — have finally arrived.
And, at the high school level, some of the most talented classes in several years lead the way.
As we get started, Prep Redzone recognizes a pair of Preseason All-State teams: a Small Schools Team representing Class 1A and Class 2A, and a Large Schools Team representing Class 3A, Class 4A and Class 5A.
Each team features 40 players: 20 on offense (12 by position, one flex and seven honorable mentions) and 20 on defense and special teams (14 by position and six honorable mentions).
