Continue ReadingThe first half for the most part was a struggle for visiting Marmion, they couldn’t establish much offensively until then end of the half. They were down, 14-10, but the momentum they created at the end of the second quarter propelled them to shut out host Montini Catholic in the second half and grinded out a solid 27-10 victory. Find out below which Cadets stood out in their hard fought road victory.
2023 Defensive end Ivan Erickson (6’6” and 230lbs) @IvanErickson9
When I went Twitter and let people know I was headed out to see this contest, Erickson sent me a message to watch out for him. Even if he didn’t it wasn’t hard to see that the defense end was the best player on the field. Erickson was an absolute terror for the Montini offense, often switching to the strong side of the field due to his impressive ability to chase down plays that were run away from him.
An absolute terror on the defensive line #44 @IvanErickson9 has tons of potential and is very much under the radar pic.twitter.com/ifAXLrnm5R

He made multiple plays in the backfield, his get off the line and strength was a complete mismatch for either of the offensive tackles. A great frame, that is muscular but room to grow, Erickson needs to be getting more recruiting attention. This was one hell of an impressive performance and I expect that teams will find out about him and ultimately land on a P5 roster.
2022 Wide receiver Dane Pardridge Dane Pardridge 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Marmion | 2022 State IL (6’ and 175lbs) @DanePardridge
Although he didn’t get many targets, you can see why Pardridge was wanted by Northern Illinois and ultimately committed to the Huskies. He’s exactly what you look for in a slot receiver, runs great routes, has very good strong hands and can take a hit.

The touchdown he scored was a great route where he got open behind the linebackers and in front of the safety, took a big hit, held onto the ball and landed in the endzone. After seeing him live, it’s no surprise that he’s headed to play for a very solid program.
2023 Running back Josh Lim Josh Lim 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Marmion Academy | 2023 State IL (5’9” and 190lbs) @JoshL1824
Part of the three-player rotation at running back, Lim showed that he’s got a ton of potential as a ball carrier. Not only did he ground out tough yards, but he cashed in on two scores in the red zone. Lim showed that he’s got great balance, and difficult to tackle, he bounced off multiple defenders on numerous plays.

He has a jump cut that is extremely impressive as well. Although Lim also plays in the secondary, I really liked what I saw from him as a ball carrier.
2022 Running back Jacob Bottarini Jacob Bottarini 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Marmion | 2022 State IL (6’ and 215lbs) @Jacob_Bottarini
Another part of the running attack was Bottarini, who in the first half got the lion’s share of the carries. He’s a load to tackle as well, and made multiple solid runs to keep the offense on track and stay in manageable downs. Bottarini’s best run of the night came early on a zone read play, when the play was designed to the left but there was an opening to the right. He sped away from the defense and had an explosive run. Bottarini has a great mix of power and speed to his game and should be a solid option for a school at the next level.
2022 Offensive tackle Robert Olsen (6’4” and 255lbs)
He stood out during warm-ups due to his size, and during the game Olsen backed up up with a very solid evening. His frame is great, long and lean, with plenty of room to continue to add on muscle, the athleticism was impressive as well. Olsen has great footwork and was strong at the point of attack, driving back his opponent on multiple occasions. He’s got great bend as well, which will help him in the future as most likely he’ll have to slide inside to guard. There’s a lot of upside with Olsen and I feel like his best football is still in front of him.
2023 Defensive tackle Sean Scheck (6’2” and 245lbs) @SeanScheck
A load on the inside, Scheck didn’t just hold off offensive lineman, he made plays on the interior as well. On back-to-back plays late in the game, Scheck tossed away the blocker and made the tackle for a minimal gain.

It was an impressive sequence for the lineman, showing his good hands and footwork in a telephone both. He’s got a thicker frame, one that could continue to add on more weight, a very solid showing from Scheck.
2022 Quarterback Daniel Chung (6’2” and 180lbs) @DannyChung__
Not the best day throwing the ball, Chung did lead a second half comeback win. There a lot to be said about a quarterback that doesn’t fold under the pressure and still has confidence to stay within the offense and not force anything. Chung made good decisions when receivers weren’t open, running for positive yardage to keep ahead of the chains. He made an impressive 4th down run as well to deep a drive alive, one that got Marmion on the board for their first score. There weren’t many deep shots taken, but on shorter throws Chung was accurate and gave his receivers a change to gain yards after the catch. A solid day for the senior leader.
2022 Wide receiver Anthony Kuceba Anthony Kuceba 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Marmion | 2022 State IL (6’1” and 190lbs) @AKuceba
The do it all player, Kuceba made plays from all over the field. When Marmion started to ground out the game on the ground, Kuceba got into the action as well, taking a carry in for a score.

Not only was he effective running the ball, but as a receiver he made solid plays as well, moving the chains when needed. He’s got very good size and his versatility could suit a team at the next level very well.
