Week 1 has a special feeling, doesn’t it? New season upon us, every team is looking to start off undefeated. In the Frontier League, this is no different. With no film out yet this season, no results, it is so fun to see what each team looks like. What returning players have made the next jump to get attention? Who is a new varsity player that will step up into their role? Here is a look at my top 5 players to watch for to have a big week 1! It’s FOOTBALL TIME!
[player_tooltip player_id="88868" first="Jovanni" last="Blackie"]- Paola- As covered before, Blackie is a top running back in all of the state. Opening up with Bonner Springs, a team Paola has historically dominated, look for the Paola star running back to have a HUGE game, even running behind a relatively inexperienced offensive line. Blackie will have many great games, and will be on a ton of lists like these, but this week should really be an absolute breakout game going against a lesser opponent. Wearing his new number 1 jersey, I expect [player_tooltip player_id="88868" first="Jovanni" last="Blackie"] to be the number 1 player on the field tonight for the Panthers.
[player_tooltip player_id="159106" first="Caden" last="Rhamy"]- Paola- Another Paola kid, and a relative newcomer to varsity, [player_tooltip player_id="159106" first="Caden" last="Rhamy"] has shot up recruiting boards, and last weeks Jamborees showed why. On the defensive side, there will be few lineman able to contain him. Expect Rhamy to come up with a few sacks coming off the edge tonight, as well as a ton of tackles for loss. While Paola starters may be pulled early, I do see both of Paola’s stars dominating.
[player_tooltip player_id="89226" first="Silas" last="Etter"]- Eudora- What more can be said about this Kansas State University commit? With the Cardinals going up against the Baldwin Bulldogs tonight, look for Etter to lead the three-headed monster in the Cardinals to a massive passing attack. I do not see how Etter will be stopped, and the Bulldogs have their hands full with this game tonight.
[player_tooltip player_id="155079" first="Zach" last="Knowlton"]- Spring Hill- [player_tooltip player_id="155079" first="Zach" last="Knowlton"] can do it all on both sides of the ball. Spring Hill looks to have a big breakout season, and Knowlton lead the team last year in receiving, tackling and interceptions. Knowlton and the Broncos host the Louisburg Wildcats tonight, in a highly anticipated game. Knowlton will be a huge threat on the ground on sweeps, in the air on passing attacks, and tackling anytime the Wildcats run in his direction.
[player_tooltip player_id="155078" first="Sam" last="Kleidosty"]- Tonganoxie- Kleidosty will play a big role for the Tonganoxie Chieftains this year. After losing a lot of key players to graduation, the Chieftain staff at least knows for sure they have a playmaker in Kleidosty. Playing a tough Basehor-Linwood team to open the new season, expect Tonganoxie to rely on Kleidosty this week while they see what else they have on their offense.
