Pete Steigmeyer – Bishop Dwenger – CB – 5’10″ 155 lbs
Steigmeyer is a young player for the Saints but he’s learning and growing on the fly. He’s starting to show some potential and he keeps flashing on the field. On Friday, he was able to make an interception on a key drive in the endzone. He stayed patient, read the eyes of the quarterback, and trusted his eyes. He came up with the pick in the endzone and he stifled his WR the entire night.
Max Schiltz – Homestead – MLB – 6’0″ 195 lbs
Schiltz has had good games lately but he hadn’t had the monster game we became accustomed to until this past week. He started early chasing down the QB for a sack. He was all over the field on Friday and he was confident in what he was seeing so he was extra aggressive. It was great to see because Max is a fantastic athlete and is only going to get better once he gets to the collegiate level.
Ashton Pesetski – Carroll – DE – 6’2″ 205 lbs
Pesetski was the leader of the pack on Friday in a game where they suffocated the opposing offense all night. They pitched a shutout against Southside and stopped the momentum Southside had been building from previous weeks. Pesetski blew up the A-gap all night and was stuffing the run game and hitting the QB. On one particular drive on a 4th & 2, he was off the ball so fast that he almost took the handoff from the QB himself.
German Guzman – Bishop Luers – DE – 5’11″ 185 lbs
Guzman has been starting to make more and more plays weekly. He’s developing right before our eyes and it’s fun to see. On Friday, he put on a show on the interior of the line. They were shifting him all over the line and he was the most successful inside. He was able to make a few sacks and stop the run game from getting going. They had to abandon the run because the D-line was all over their line and Guzman led the charge.
Da’Von Doughty Da’Von Doughty 5'10" | 205 lbs | LB North Side | 2023 State IN – Bishop Luers – MLB – 5’10″ 185 lbs
Doughty was the leader of the second level on Friday and he made the biggest play of the game for Bishop Luers when they needed it. He dropped back into coverage, Guzman got the pressure, forced an bad and hurried throw, and Doughty picked the ball off and he was off to the races. He found the endzone and celebrated with his teammates. It was great to see the defense dominate the game the way they did. They have some talent and I think they could be a real threat deep into the playoffs.
