One of which will take place at Chambers Field, when the Carroll Chargers pay a visit to the Northside legends. After two tough losses, Northside will look to bounce back and get themselves in the win column. Carroll responded to a close loss in the opener against Bishop Luers, by holding on late against Snider. Both teams will be looking for a crucial win to keep themselves right in the mix for a Summit Athletic Conference Championship.
Carroll Chargers
Carroll will look to make it back-to-back victories when they travel to Fort Wayne’s near north side on Friday night. Last week, the Chargers were able to pick up a critical road win against the Snider Panthers, without the services of their star quarterback Jeff Becker Jeff Becker 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Carroll | 2022 State IN . They will be hoping to have Becker back in the lineup this week and if they do, the Northside defense will have to be ready. Becker can extend plays. He has great composure and he sees the field very well, finding the open man and creating big plays. On the defensive side of the ball, the Chargers will rely on their talented linebacker Dylan Bennett Dylan Bennett 6'1" | 225 lbs | LB Carroll | 2023 State IN to lead the way. Bennett is a great run defender and tackler. However, he has made an impact in pass coverage so far this season, recording one interception in each of Carroll’s first two games.
Northside Legends
If you look throughout the SAC, it may be difficult to find a team with more athletic ability than the Northside Legends. The Legends boast of a receiving core that contains playmakers Braunte Johnson Braunte Johnson 6'3" | 170 lbs | WR North Side | 2024 State IN , Brashawn Bassett Brashawn Bassett 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB North Side | 2023 State IN and Jordan Turner Jordan Turner 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR North Side | 2022 State IN . All three of these talented receivers can put the opposing defensive backfield on its heels. Northside could have a huge advantage in the return game. In the trenches, the Legends will need a big day from an offensive line that is anchored by Jordan King Jordan King 6'4" | 310 lbs | OL North Side | 2024 State IN . If Northside can establish the run early, that will open up so many things for their playmakers in the passing game, later in the game.
Prediction
This one is a lot tougher to call than most would expect. To truly evaluate Northside, you have to look beyond their record. They lost on a last-second field goal at home against Snider Week 1 and they kept it close until the second half at Bishop Dwenger in Week 2. I fully anticipate that the Legends will keep this a tight ball game throughout. However, Carroll has experience in such situations. And if they can get Jeff Becker Jeff Becker 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Carroll | 2022 State IN back in the lineup, I believe that will be the difference. I think Carroll just does edge out this game and climbs above .500.
