There was a big battle in South Atlanta this weekend that featured an impressive amount of D1 talent. The Cedar Grove Knights took on Carver-Atlanta at Lakewood Stadium Friday evening and both defenses showed out in a big way. The Knights are loaded defensively and they lead the way to a big 17-0 win.
Here are some of the top performers from Friday night’s game…
CJ Madden – EDGE – Cedar Grove
One of the top overall prospects in the game, the 6-foot-3 240-pound EDGE defender showed why he was one of the fastest-rising prospects over the summer. Madden was all over the field and came up with a big sacks and a TFL in the first half. He helped stop an impressive Carver rushing attack and held his own setting the edge on the outside. He kept everything between the numbers and the rest of the Cedar Grove defense was able to rally to the ball-carrier and not let up. Madden also had a big Pick-6 in the 2nd half to secure the victory. He showed good ball skills and enough speed on the sideline to get one of the game’s only scores. The future Georgia Bulldog clearly looked like one of the top players on the field that night.

Everett Roussaw Jr – LB/DB – Cedar Grove
The athletic linebacker showed off his ball skills this weekend as he reeled in another important INT. A versatile defender, the 6-foot-2 215-pounder is quick, can read defenses, and knows how to make a play on the football. He played fast against Carver and set the ton both against the run and against the pass. He’s built well and still has plenty of room to add weight and muscle. He already looks and moves like an SEC defender and holds offers from Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi State, among others. Look for him to continue eating up running backs for the rest of the season.
One of the top defensive backs in all of Atlanta and one of the best in the entire 2023 class, Lee is a dynamic defensive back who is coming off an excellent game on Friday night. He picked off two passes against Carver, helping to secure a Cedar Grove victory and making them one-dimensional. Lee made sure Carver couldn’t get anything going through the air, so the defense could sit back and play the run all game. The entire Cedar Grove defense played the pass well, but Lee showed why it’s always a mistake to throw his way. He’s also a physical defender who knows how to dish out a big hit. He’s instinctive, put together well, and showed he knows how to make a play on the ball. He looked like a top D1 prospect.
Another Cedar Grove defender, Miller is one of the top defensive line prospects in the South and showed why. He’s so quick for his size and has really turned his body around in the last 16 months. He’s bigger, more physical, and still has enough quickness to wreak havoc from the interior. He gets a big push right off the snap and can blow up plays in a hurry. He plays in front of other impressive defenders, so while he may not light up the stat sheet like others, Miller is the one doing the dirty work inside to make it easy for others. He clogs the gaps in the run game, closes well on the ball carrier and knows how to get after the passer as well. He helped anchor the defense and the defense did their job.
Since they won the game, it’s only fitting that we throw in an offensive performer to the list. Dubinion, one of the top playmakers across Georgia, was a big weapon for the Knights once again on offense. A true athlete who could play both receiver or running back at the next level, Dubinion is shifty, quick, explosive, and has “big play” written all over him. He showed his dynamic talent as he leapt over defenders during the big win. He slashed his way to a nice game and led the team offensively. The future Arkansas Razorback continued his big season against a respectable Carver-Atlanta defense.
