[player_tooltip player_id="186969" first="Jagger" last="Filippone"]- OL, Torrey Pines
Filippone was featured as one of the top players at his position in the San Diego OL preview and comes in as a new name on the 2022 CA Rankings. Filippone moves well for his size at at 6’6 265 lbs., and shows solid fundamentals that will translate well at the next level. He picked up a big offer from ASU in August which could generate more interest from P-5 schools.

[player_tooltip player_id="141995" first="Samuel" last="Gbatu"]- WR, Temecula
Gbatu is a big play waiting to happen on offense and special teams with 2 receiving tds and 2 kick return tds through week 3 of this season. He’s extremely elusive in open space and is a constant threat to turn an underneath route into an explosive play. He’s a skilled receiver with crafty routes and soft hands. Gbatu currently holds offers from Air Force, Army, and Yale.

[player_tooltip player_id="143113" first="Griffin" last="Grant"]- DB, Torrey Pines
Grant’s a leader in the Torrey Pines secondary as a second-year starter at safety. He combines instincts and athleticism in coverage and physicality in the run game. Grant will play a big part in Torrey’s ability to contain Carlsbad’s high-scoring offense led by QB [player_tooltip player_id="115456" first="Julian" last="Sayin"] when the two teams meet on October 1st.

[player_tooltip player_id="186990" first="Kendall" last="Williams"]- DL, Lincoln
Williams is a physical force on both sides of the ball for Lincoln at LT and DT. He was featured as a top DL in San Diego but has also shown continuous improvement protecting QB Jalen Daniel’s blindside at LT. Williams is a tenacious and violent player wherever he lines up in the trenches with the size (6’4, 285 lbs.) and power to dominate DEs and interior OL. Lincoln finishes the season in late October against another tough, physical team in Cathedral Catholic, certainly a game to keep an eye on with lots of D1 talent on the field.

[player_tooltip player_id="187264" first="Makhi" last="Smith"]- WR, La Jolla
Smith is proving to be one of the best athletes and two-way players in San Diego this season already tallying 4 TDs and 2 INTs through La Jolla’s first three games. He’s produced some highlight plays so far with a textbook goalline fade and nasty stiff arms. Smith’s an underrated athlete with an impressive catch radius, speed, and strength. Expect him and QB [player_tooltip player_id="141886" first="Jackson" last="Stratton"] to continue putting up big performances for the La Jolla offense throughout the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="187272" first="Elijah" last="Ortiz"]- QB, Helix
Ortiz joined a new team in the summer after transferring from Torrey Pines to Helix for his senior season. He’s an athletic QB with great natural arm talent and an accurate thrower that can find receivers from inside the pocket or on the move. Ortiz’s natural arm talent gives him tremendous upside at the next level. He’s still waiting on his first offer but has generated interest from Mountain West schools Colorado St. and Nevada.
Watchlist:
[player_tooltip player_id="187303" first="Gunnar" last="Hensley"]- QB, Mission Hills
Hensley is one of the more underrated QB talents in San Diego. He has an incredibly accurate arm and can throw with velocity or touch. He’s shown great improvement with his pocket instincts and footwork this season and has carried over his momentum from the spring with WR Matt Martin already connecting with him for multiple TDs this season. Hensley is a player that should start seeing interest from schools soon.

[player_tooltip player_id="187295" first="Carter" last="Schultz"]- QB, San Marcos
Schultz is a player to watch in San Diego for his impressive physical skillset at the QB position. He’s an athletic QB at 6’3 205 lbs., with a big arm and can make plays with his legs. San Marcos has had a difficult start to the season losing their first three, but Shultz’s development will be something to keep an eye on the rest of the way.
Highlights
[player_tooltip player_id="195521" first="Luke" last="Teskey"]- Edge, Mater Dei Catholic Defense
Teskey is a strong, physical player upfront for the Mater Dei Catholic defense. He excels as a stand-up edge player who can set the edge aggressively and use his length to tip balls at the LOS. He uses his hands well to fight off blocks and plays with a high motor.
