With three weeks in the books, we have updated our 2022 rankings. As always, there was plenty of movement up and down the rankings. These 10 players turned it up a notch and made the biggest jumps up the rankings:
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="198052" first="Kieran" last="Cordova"], WR (Volcano Vista)</strong>: Cordova is off to a phenomenal start to the 2021 season with 15 receptions for 363 yards and 2 touchdowns. In Volcano Vista’s last game against Manzano, Cordova showcased his speed in getting separation from the Monarchs secondary. According to MaxPreps, Cordova ranks second in the state in receiving yardage going into Week 4.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135336" first="Joseph" last="Perez"], LB (Lovington)</strong>: Yeah, Lovington is 3-0 in part because of a prolific offense led by a stellar receiving corps. But the Wildcats also possess a strong defense. Perez is fourth in the state in tackles with 32, an average of more than 10 tackles for game, with 6.0 tackles for loss.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26267" first="Ian" last="Lopez"], QB (Centennial)</strong>: Lopez has demonstrated the dual threat skills that had Hawks coach Aaron Ocampo giddy before the season. Against West Mesa, Lopez raced 89 yards for a touchdown on Centennial first offensive play from scrimmage before throwing a 50-yardTD pass later in the contest.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135321" first="Hunter" last="Haemker"], LB (La Cueva)</strong>: Watching Haemker roam all over the field making plays, you’re reminded why New Mexico offered. The 6-foot-3 Haemker committed to the Lobos, and he’s backed up that commitment with his play on the field. Last week Haemker and the Bears defense held Las Cruces to 10 points on the Bulldawgs’ home field.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26265" first="Martell" last="Mora"], RB/DB (Santa Fe)</strong>: Is there a more exciting player in the state? Probably not. Mora has rocketed up the rankings with a sensational start to the season: 456 rushing yards and 7 TDs on 38 carries, 2 receptions for 55 yards and 1 punt return for TD. He’s also a college prospect after running a sub-4.5 in the 40 in July. Eastern New Mexico has expressed interest.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="134908" first="Colton" last="Graham"], QB (Hobbs)</strong>: Graham has emerged as one of the top senior quarterbacks in the state this season. So far this season he’s thrown for 369 yards and two touchdowns in leading Hobbs to a 2-1 record. His encouraging start come son the heel of a spring campaign in which he threw for 649 yards and 5 touchdowns.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26247" first="Josh" last="Gerardo"], QB (Volcano Vista)</strong>: Few players rose higher up the rankings than Gerardo. He won a quarterback battle during the summer and preseason camp and so far he’s made head coach Chad Wallin look like a genius. In two games he’s already thrown for 716 yards and 7 TDs, including 443 yards and six TDs in the rout of Manzano. He’s second in the state in passing yardage.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135136" first="Tristen" last="Ludi-Herrera"], WR Bernalillo</strong>: Who’s the leading receiver in terms of yardage in the entire state? Ludi-Herrera. He has 12 receptions for 390 yards and 4 touchdowns. Bernalillo is know for its stout (3 shutouts in 3 games) defense, but Ludi-Herrera gives them an elite offensive threat as well.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="135313" first="Matthew" last="Quartieri"], TE/DL (Raton)</strong>: The 6-foot-3 Quartieri is a major reason Raton is ranked No. 2 in Class 3 by MaxPreps. He excels on both sides of the ball, catching passes from his brother [player_tooltip player_id="26234" first="Dylan" last="Quartieri"] (15 receptions for 249 yards) and leading the Raton defense with a team-high 25 tackles. He already holds college offers and will certainly play at the next level.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="26270" first="James" last="Jenkins"], QB/WR (Hope Christian)</strong>: Everything you want to know about Jenkins came early in last week’s game at Albuquerque Academy. After Hope Christian stopped Academy on fourth down inside the 5-yard line, Jenkins raced 96 yards for a touchdown on the next play. Jenkins is one of the most dynamic players in Class 3A.
