However, St. John High School won the game by one point in the end. The final score was 34 St. John Mavericks (3-0) and 33 Fort Bend Christian Eagles (2-1). St. John High School had a good amount of defensive weapons.
#34 Pierce Leverett TE, DE Jr
Pierce Leverett was an intriguing player. Pierce started lining up as a wide receiver, but it was revealed later that he’s a tight end. Then, he came out on defense as a defensive lineman as a defensive end. Pierce is very athletic he’s tall and has a good frame he can easily transition to each position properly. I would say Pierce was better as a defensive end, he was fast off the ball and very aggressive. Pierce also played well as a tight end. Pierce could block, tackle, catch and run he’s a very valuable player. Looking forward to seeing Pierce’s progress through his Junior and Senior year.
#23 Cole Allen WR, CB, FS Fr 5’10 180 lbs
Cole Allen is a star in the making. Not only does Cole play both ways on offense and defense he is only a freshman. It is rare to see a freshman with the amount of skill Cole had. Cole is very fast possibly the fastest player on his team. I will say he had a better performance as a wide receiver on offense, but he had a standout performance on defense as well. Cole being a free safety and cornerback with the level speed of he has was able to cover and pursue whoever he needed to very well. I believe if Cole put on more weight and muscles in these next four years he’ll be an unstoppable threat.
#6 Jack Mcgarry CB Jr
Jack Mcgarry had an outstanding performance Friday night. Jack has solid footwork allowing him to properly cover his man. Jack stopped a couple of passes as well. Jack ended the night with eight tackles. If Jack could overall improve his speed he would be a major threat.
#52 Garrett Young MLB Sr
If I could name the player that stood out the most on defense it was Garrett Young. Garrett Young is a superstar after every play on defense I heard the announcer call his name. Garrett was involved in practically every play either by making the tackle or assisting in the tackle. Garrett was very aggressive and knew how to properly read Fort Bend’s offense to tell where the ball was going. Garrett is a great middle linebacker definitely a big asset to St. John’s defense.
#54 Brabson Pacha DE Sr 6’1 190 lbs
Another standout defensive lineman was defensive end Brabson Pacha. Brabson was fast off the ball and knew how to capitalize with it. Brabson was able to get pass Fort Bend’s offensive line and was able to sack the quarterback four times. Brabson knew how to apply the pressure needed to stopping Fort Bend’s offense.
