Week 2 Birmingham Metro Players of the Week

It is week 2 in Alabama High School Football season and we had another great slate of games around the area this weekend. Here are some of the top performances in the Birmingham Metro as teams look to get prepared for region play. Kason Jones | Jackson-Olin RB Jones had a huge performance behind an extremely strong offensive line Friday night against Calera. Jones rushed for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns as Jackson-Olin went on to win 38-13. The senior is still getting back to full strength after a meniscus injury that caused him to miss all of last season. He will continue to look better as the season progresses. Jackson-Olin will travel to face Mortimer Jordan next week to open region play in Class 6A - Region 6. Cam Shepherd | McAdory QB Shepherd turned in a great performance to lead McAdory to a 33-28 win over Class 5A Demopolis. Shepherd completed 21 of 32 passes for 294 yards. He recorded 9 carries for 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The win moves McAdory to 2-0 on the season under first-year head coach Aryvia Holmes. The Yellow Jackets will host Homewood for their first 6A game of the season next Friday. Ja’Kobi Albert | Fairfield WR/SS Albert did a little bit of everything in Fairfield’s win over Center Point Thursday night. The Auburn commit plays both ways for Fairfield and impacts the game in numerous ways. He recorded 4 receptions for 116 yards and 4 touchdowns. He ran the ball 4 times for 44 yards. Albert also had an interception and two tackles for loss on defense as the Tigers won 32-14 in their season opener. Fairfield will travel to Parker next Thursday to open region play in Class 5A - Region 5. [player_tooltip player_id="125947" first="Alex" last="Young"] | Pleasant Grove QB Young had a strong opener for Pleasant Grove as they dominated Class 6A Oxford, 61-24. Young went 10-14 passing for 220 yards and four scores. He also had 2 rushes for 30 yards. This was an extremely impressive performance for Young and Pleasant Grove against traditionally one of the better teams in 6A. Pleasant Grove is ranked #2 in Class 5A and looks like they will be a top contender all season long. The Spartans will travel to play Cordova next week to open region play in Class 5A - Region 5. [player_tooltip player_id="125939" first="Bennett" last="Meredith"] | Hoover QB Meredith had another great performance for No. 2 Hoover as the Bucs defeated another Georgia team to open the 2021 season. This week Hoover defeated Alpharetta (Ga.) 35-7 after beating North Gwinnett at Merecedes-Benz Stadium last Saturday. Meredith went 12-17 for 162 yards and 4 touchdowns in just three quarters of work to give him 9 total touchdowns in Hoover’s first two games. The Bucs will remain at home as they host Vestavia Hills next week to open Class 7A - Region 3 play.
