Friday night under the lights is back! This was a really interesting and hard-fought game. La Salle College had 2 key players who did not play in running back [player_tooltip player_id="27560" first="Samuel" last="Brown"] and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="27556" first="Abdul" last="Carter"].
I was glad I watched this game online, I really wanted to see what [player_tooltip player_id="154352" first="Stone" last="Saunders"] was all about as a freshman. First play from scrimmage he threw a deep pass, and it was right on the money. Saunders looked the part of a future Power 5 quarterback. He’s got the size, arm strength as a young kid and showed to be athletic. Never really got flustered. When he has time in the pocket his deep accuracy is on the money throwing for a second deep pass later in the game. [player_tooltip player_id="27593" first="Mario" last="Easterly"] was involved early and often in the receiving game but did die down as the game went on. I believe Saunders to Easterly is going to happen a lot this season. Another receiver to watch along with Easterly, [player_tooltip player_id="27597" first="Kamil" last="Foster"], and [player_tooltip player_id="140018" first="Jeffrey" last="Penn"] is sophomore Rico Scott. He made a few good plays. I kept my eye closely on top offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="27745" first="Gabriel" last="Arena"], he looked good out there, did not give up a sack.
For La Salle College, defensively [player_tooltip player_id="140975" first="Darold" last="Dengohe"] was disruptive in the backfield. He had a few tackles for loss and a couple of sacks. To replace [player_tooltip player_id="27556" first="Abdul" last="Carter"] was senior linebacker Chris Thompson and sophomore linebacker Matt Wills. They both looked good out there, making plays. On offense to replace [player_tooltip player_id="27560" first="Samuel" last="Brown"] was a couple of running backs, but the one who stole the show was sophomore Stevie Davis. He’s undersized listed at 5’6 but quick with good speed and really good balance after contact. He is smooth with his jump cuts as well. Davis scored 2 touchdowns from 50 and 14-yards. He also added a huge kickoff return to start the 2nd half. From what I saw, believe he could be an FBS running back.
