Each had very good seasons last year and played a vital role in their teams success and will be asked to do the same this season. The athletes listed will be heading into their senior season ready to lay it on the line so keep an eye out for them!
RB Kenneth Kennedy (5’9″ 190) – Lamar
2020/21 Stats: 90 carries, 371 rushing yards, 11 TDs
A strong, hard running back, Kennedy uses his power and speed to get through running lanes and he is no stranger to contact. Kennedy showed good vision and hit the holes with great acceleration and purpose, and never went down without a fight. His play earned his Second Team All-District honors. Look for him to turn it up a notch this season and to put more defenders on their backs on his way to the end zone.
DL Eti-ini Bassey (6’1″ 270) – Tompkins
2020/21 Stats: 44 total tackles, 8 TFLs, 4 Sacks
Bassey was a bully off the snap last season and will look to continue his ways this year. He took on doubles with no issues and still made plays in the backfield. Bassey plays with great drive and shows tremendous finesse and power skills. He is an extremely disruptive player, and because of that he was named to the First Team All-District list. Very talent player with a bright future with his play.
RB Richard Rodriguez (5’9″ 180) – Tomball Memorial
2020/21 Stats: 254 carries, 1,927 yards, 24 TDs
Rodriguez was a big play back for his team and was a major piece in the teams success last season. Rodriguez was shifty and hit the holes with great acceleration, and finished runs off with good physicality. Every time he touched the ball, there was a high chance he would score. Rodriguez earned First Team All-District honors with his incredible play, and will be leaned upon again this season. Rodriguez will definitely be a player to go crazy this season so keep eyes out for him.
DB AJ Broussard (5’9″ 170) – Klein Oak
Broussard was an active defender last season in the secondary, reading the opposing quarterbacks eyes to perfection. He was quick to jump routes and showed tremendous ball skills with the ball in the air. Broussard showed excellent football instincts and awareness, providing great help at the safety position. He was always in the right spots to make the plays and was quick to diagnose what was happening. Broussard was a First Team All-District selection and I know he will be looking for more heading into this season.
OL Nonso Omezi (6’4″ 315) – Westside
Omezi is a lineman with great size who excels in the run game. He does an excellent job of driving opponents off the ball and clearing a path for his teammates. Omezi is extremely physical and when he is engaged in a block, the defender will most likely end on the ground. He was a First Team All-District selection and will look to dominate the line of scrimmage again this season.
DB Ja’Merion Gibson (5’10” 170) – Langham Creek
2020/21 Stats: 30 total tackles, 1 INT, 5 PBUs
Gibson looked very good in coverage last season. He read his keys, was decisive on his moves, and played the ball very well in the air. Not much fooled Gibson last season and he played with very good field awareness. Gibson was on an island majority of the year and exceled at it, which earned him First Team All-District honors. Gibson is a very good 1 on 1 corner who has the talent to really make some noise this season.
WR Chase Sowell (6’3″ 185) – Atascocita
Sowell is a nice sized receiver who proved to be a valuable weapon for the Eagle offense last season. Whether is was a deep route or bubble screen, Sowell made it a positive play out of it. His long strides got him passed most secondary’s, and his size allowed him to box out defenders for the ball. Sowell showed to be a physical receiver able to out muscle defenders and take hits. He was named to the First Team All-District list and will be looking for more this season.
LB Jaylen Hasan (6’2″ 225) – Klein Collins
Hasan showed great anticipation and read his keys very well, allowing them to take him to the ball. He is a backer with good size and moves with great quickness. Hasan was quick on his play diagnosis and showed little false steps. He was a secure tackler last season and played a physical game. At most times, he was the first person in the running lane before the opposing players could make a move. Hasan earned First Team All-District selection and is a player to watch to see how he has developed and what he has worked on this offseason. Great potential in this player!
