We saw some big-time performances this week including big games from some of the state’s top QBs. Here are a few QBs who had big scrimmage performances this weekend…
Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA – Rabun County
As expected, the state’s top-ranked QB had a big scrimmage as he prepares to re-write the passing records this fall as a senior. The Rabun County Wildcats hosted St. Frances this weekend and the future Georgia Bulldog showed why he’s an elite talent. The dual-threat QB lead the Wildcats to a big 44-14 victory as he threw five touchdowns on the night. He targeted new receiver Jaden Gibson Jaden Gibson 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Rabun County | 2023 State GA all night and threw four of his five touchdowns to his new weapon. Stockton can hit all the throws and brings a dynamic element to Rabun County’s offense as he’s one of the best running QBs in the state. Look for him to likely lead the state in passing this season.
Devin Farrell Devin Farrell 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Milton | 2022 State GA – Milton
The Milton Eagles have a state championship on their mind this fall, and if Farrell plays in the regular season like he did in this weekend’s scrimmage, the Eagles have a good shot of going all the way. The Virginia Tech commitment went against a talented Westlake defense, but he had no problem throwing the ball around the field and hitting his receivers deep. Farrell pushed the ball downfield often and he was consistent doing it. He threw a 45-yard TD on a rope in the first half and added another long TD pass under pressure before the half. His arm is improving more and more by the day and he showed he has enough arm strength to make big plays down the field whenever he wants. The Eagles would go on to beat Westlake 35-12.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA – Brookwood
One of the top overall QBs in the state, the big gunslinger and baseball star picked up right where he left off last season, putting up points left and right for the Broncos against a tough South Paulding team. Lonergan tossed three touchdowns on the night and had no problem slinging the ball to one of his favorite targets, running back Alexander Gibbs. Lonergan can throw an accurate deep ball and has one of the strongest arms in the state. He started all last season as a sophomore and there are sky-high expectations for the four-star QB this fall as a junior.
Brayden Mauldin – Paulding County
One of the top sleeper QBs in the 2022 class, the Paulding County star has good size at 6-foot-4 190-pounds and is on track to have an excellent senior season. He looked strong last year in front of Prep Red-zone where he threw three TDs in a game against North Hall, and he came out slinging this weekend in their scrimmage. Mauldin threw 4 TDs and has a chance to light up the scoreboard a lot this fall. He’s accurate, throws well on the run, and will bring a veteran leadership to the team this year. His recruitment hasn’t taken off yet, but he absolutely has the size and arm talent to play somewhere at the next level.
