The Top Players in D.C.

This is part 1 of the DC series. Let’s take a closer look at some of the top players in the District of Columbia coming into the ’21-’22 season. &nbsp; <strong>#5| 2022 5’9 205 RB [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"] – Archbishop Carroll </strong> Senior captain and star running back [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"] is not going to be stopped this season, on his way to a record breaking year. Amidst the final year of his high school campaign, Reid is going to make a statement on the field this season and he will hold nothing back. When a runner of his caliber has the mindset that he does this season then it’s a truly special thing and, as spectators, we will see something magnificent from [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"]. The entire DMV will know the name [player_tooltip player_id="137054" first="Shon" last="Reid"] by season’s end, and there’s no doubt that he will continue his talents to the D1 level next year. <strong> </strong> <strong>#4| 2022 6’3 290 OL [player_tooltip player_id="137172" first="Tommy" last="Dombo"] – Gonzaga </strong> If you’re looking for an imposing offensive lineman who finishes his tackles then look no further than [player_tooltip player_id="137172" first="Tommy" last="Dombo"]. The WCAC is absolutely stacked with collegiate level defenders, and in order to win it’s essential that you protect your quarterback and ball carriers. [player_tooltip player_id="137172" first="Tommy" last="Dombo"] does just that in sublime fashion, and his senior campaign will no doubt be his best effort yet. The Purple Eagles’ offensive line is right where it needs to be heading into the season with [player_tooltip player_id="137172" first="Tommy" last="Dombo"] primed for a breakout Senior year. <strong> </strong> <strong>#3| 2022 6’3 225 TE [player_tooltip player_id="90516" first="Nate" last="Kurisky"] – Gonzaga </strong> [player_tooltip player_id="90516" first="Nate" last="Kurisky"] is the best tight end in the entire DMV, and he can play on the defensive side of the ball as well. His offensive blocking is also paramount to the team’s success, as he opens up holes for backs and continuously protects the quarterback. As a receiver, Kurisky seems to never drop a pass and he always gains yards after contact. The Gonzaga Purple Eagles are always a force to be reckoned with in the WCAC, and, with [player_tooltip player_id="90516" first="Nate" last="Kurisky"] as a Senior leader, stopping them is going to be extremely difficult this season. <strong> </strong> <strong>#2| 2022 6’2 190 DB [player_tooltip player_id="90518" first="Joshua" last="Thompson"] – St. John’s – Stanford </strong> There’s not a more lockdown corner in the entire WCAC than [player_tooltip player_id="90518" first="Joshua" last="Thompson"]. His speed and agility make it impossible for receivers at this level to find open space, and his football IQ is so high that he usually knows what the receiver is doing before he even does it. The Stanford commit will be extending his talents to the PAC12 next year, but before then he has the potential to bring a WCAC title to St. John’s. Good luck scoring on [player_tooltip player_id="90518" first="Joshua" last="Thompson"] this year. <strong> </strong> <strong>#1| 2022 6’4 230 DL  [player_tooltip player_id="90511" first="Isaiah" last="Smith"] – St. John’s</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="90511" first="Isaiah" last="Smith"] was a dominant force for the Cadets during their Spring season and he will continue to do exactly that during the upcoming season. He’s a blatant mismatch for 99% of offensive linemen at the high school level and there’s simply no defending his rushes. He’s a  relentless tackler who will go absolutely anywhere on the field to tackle the ball carrier. There’s no question that [player_tooltip player_id="90511" first="Isaiah" last="Smith"] and St. John’s could be crowned WCAC champs, and they’ll look to start off their season with a win at home this Saturday against New Jersey’s formidable Don Bosco Prep.
