I decided to kick off the season right with one of the games of the week which was Shadow creek high school vs North Shore high school held at freedom field. In the 1st half it was a pretty close game with Shadow Creek only down by a touchdown. However, North Shore took the game final score 33-9. Shadow Creek used to be a major powerhouse they went undefeated all the way to winning a state championship in the year 2019 and went to the state finals and lost in 2020. I will be highlighting Shadow Creek high school players that stood out the most.
#7 Duke Butler QB, FS Jr 6’1 170 lbs
Shadow Creek high school didn’t have the best offensive setup, they didn’t know how to utilize there skill players properly. Shadow Creek offensive line was their weakest link without a proper offensive line you cannot properly execute plays. The quarterback Duke Butler is a pretty good quarterback I would say he definitely has a lot of room to grow. When Duke had time to throw the ball he made some great passes, but it was just unfortunate that he didn’t have good protection. If Duke improved on his quick decision making and learned how to scramble I think he could be a great quarterback especially if he had a proper offensive line to help him out.
#4 Lawrence Armstong WR Sr 6’0 165 lbs
Duke had two people he mainly passed the ball to one of them wide receiver Lawrence Armstrong. Lawrence is a capable wide receiver fast, quick, and great hands. Lawrence scored a 45 yard pass touchdown which was the only touchdown they scored all night.
#1 Jacorey Watson QB, WR Fr
The other wide receiver Duke mainly passed to was #1 Jacorey Watson. I was shocked when I saw that was a freshman starting on varsity for the 1st game of the season. Jacorey is a great wide receiver and the way he was moving I couldn’t tell that he was a freshman. Jacorey was very fast even out running the opposing team’s defensive back which was a senior. Jacorey is definitely going to be a player to keep an eye on he still has a lot more room to grow in the next four years. Jacorey on the roster also said he’s a quarterback, therefore when Duke graduates in two years I could see him taking the leadership role as a quarterback starting his Junior year.
#20 Dejuan Lewis DB Sr 6’1 185 lbs
Based off what I saw I think Dejuan Lewis was the fastest player on Shadow Creek team. Dejuan Lewis started on defense as a defensive back and with his speed he was able to properly cover any wide receiver on North Shore’s team. However, I want to talk about his special team performance. Dejuan was on kick return and punt return as the returner. Every time Dejuan successfully received a kick or punt he always averaged a considerable amount of yards for offense to take over.
